I've been on geodon for 3 years. The second year on it I missed a period for 3 months. The next year I missed again for 3 months. Now here I am again missing since January. I chalked it up to menopause but then I was reading that Antiphychotics can cause you to miss. 2 months ago I was having hot flashes but they only lasted for 3 weeks then totally went away. Another thing I noticed being on Geodon is my breasts grew a whole cup size. Used to be a C and now have been a D for the last 2 1/2 years. Just wondering anyone else experience this or could it just be menopause?

Atypical APs can raise your prolactin level. Tell your doctor about this. Your doctor can do a simple blood test to measure your prolactin level. My guess is that it's too high.

ETA: A high prolactin level would explain these symptoms.

Geodon might cause growth in the breasts??? wow That could be an enormous off-label use.

Now if there was a drug that caused growth in the penis.........................ha ha ha ha

Anything that can cause elevated prolactic levels, like the AAP's, can cause breast enlargement.

Well, it could be either. you might want to consult an obgyn on this issue. Psych meds caused me to miss 2 years of periods once (it was a mix of stuff that did it) and I went to a cheap ob because I had no medical at the time and they told me, "Oh, yeah, psych meds can do that" and left it alone.

later, after getting health insurance I went to a (reputable) obgyn and he was pretty horrified because the problem is if you are still producing 'stuff" on your uterine lining from hormones, but not excreting it as best i can understand, it can be a not good thing if you do have a period, leading to very heavy bleeding and bad stuff.

The solution is, after getting hormone levels checked to make sure if this is menopause or not, (which my doc did, even though I was young) be prescribed a medication that will induce menstruation artifically to make sure that uterine lining doesn't build up. It's simply progesterone, and is very safe. You take it once every 3 months and induce a period, and that's that.

Now I'm on a slightly different med regimen I no longer have this problem, but it's easily managed if it turns out to be non menopausal in nature.
