Hard time adjusting to Bupropion (generic Wellbutrin)

Recommended Posts

I am not getting the support at home I need while on this journey to find meds that will help me be a better mother, and more functional person.

I started on Bupropion 100mg 1xday for the first week and 2xday thereafter (total 200mgs/day) 5-15-11 WOW.

I feel disconnected with reality and my surroundings, let alone venture out into unfamiliar territory. This feeling has me totally anxiety ridden. I do have to say that from the time the side effects started they have lessened. I would say 95% of the time I was weirded out now maybe 70% of the time. I just want to know that other people experienced this feeling and that is does go away after the adjustment period.

It been a rough ride but I was so hopeful this medication would work. Tried plenty others before and I have to say the first few days I was on it was great! - then the wierdness started. Honeymoon period over, please keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times until you come to a complete stop...

I use Buproprion, and it made me feel slightly light-headed when I started it. That feeling went away after about a week.

But people react differently to different medications - so if your side effect doesn't go away, I'd talk to your doctor.

The upside for me, re: This med, is that the Buproprion did work (and still does.)

Also, maybe consider whether there is any other physical reason you could be having a weird reaction - like if you're under on-going stress?, or have had the flu?, or something like that. That might affect the results, not sure.

There are over 21 anti-depressants out there to try (last time I counted, probably more than that) - so maybe if this one doesn't work, another one will. But I'd wait & see what happens with this one.

Good luck,

Annemarie

Actually I waited until the stress of last school semester was over so I wouldn't have any extra stress on my hands. I didn't go into the Psychs office to get back on meds initially. I had been completely off everything for several months and based on what I told him he suggested I try this so I did.

Yes I am trying to ride it out another couple of weeks. Trying this medication has been the biggest stress for me as of late. :) I have noticed improvement in the weird feelings subsiding to about 70% of my awake time, and especially when I am anxious about going out in public feeling like this then I start to disassociate and panic.

I'm no doctor, but if it still makes you feel disconnected and hazy after a couple of weeks, I'd ask your doctor if there might be something else to try.

Unless you think you can live with it.

But maybe that hazy, disconnected feeling will go away. Hang in there.

Wishing you well,

-Annemarie
