Lost_Wolf
If you develop a case of akathisia while taking an anti psychotic....what are the chances of you developing another case of it later on down the road on a different anti psychotic?
Cetkat
Generally, it doesn't change anything as far as I know. I had it on Abilify, but not on Geodon, Zyprexa, or Seroquel. Abilify is the most likely one to cause it btw. Also, just so you know, I was able to get past the Abilify akathisia by titrating extremely slowly. Now I'm on it without a problem. I would tell you exactly what she said, excepting that I haven't been on any other AAP.
netsavy006
The chances of developing akathisia varies between antipsychotics. For me, I found Clozaril to have no akathisia, but Abilify and Saphris caused severe akathisia to the point where I had to stop the medicine. There are medications to help akathisia should it develop such as Cogentin and Artane. Good Luck, Andy.
notfred
I would think it has more to do with the incidence of Akathisia for a specific med. nf
netsavy006
Doesn't it also vary from person to person? Like drug A, for example, could give intense akathisia to person A, but to person B, not have that problem?
Blart752
I've been reading and reading and I can't find anywhere that suggests that the chances are any higher of developing akathisia on an AAP if you've developed it using a different AAP. There is however an increased incidence of NMS, which is Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome when changing between antipsychotics, but my doctor says it has to be at higher doses, which makes sense. AnneMarie
Risperdal is the only AAP that doesn't give me akathesia, at least not at 3mg or less. I've yet to try Saphris, Latuda, or Fanapt, partly because I fear akathesia.
Blart752
I am on risperdal right now, and not much akathisia, i do have motor agitation though like tapping my chin for some reason. zyprexa was good in this aspect as well, if not for the weight gain id be taking that.
