Meds, hormones, world views of men and women

Recommended Posts

But do any of you view meds as either tough meds or weak meds. What I mean by that is some meds, can be helpful to help with the shameful feelings, or to bring out the shameful feelings, demasculate you So to speak. and some can just kind of toughen you up make you into some no knowledge of fear beast. The top meds that seem to take away fear for me are some assortments of antipsychotics and antidepressants. But for me some of the ones that kind of bring out some "girly" type sweaty palms/ hormones are risperdal or invega<<<brain fart ie

Tegretol or maybe trileptal was said to be better to be used in men than in women(YMMV) per crazymeds website.

Even though, I know everyone is different, and it is a tough world out there for both women and men. For me it seems tougher for men, because we hafta act all tough you know. I tend to think women, as a woman view men as it to be easy for them to let out their feelings. Because again not many men judge other men when they cry. But, women ususally view the world in terms of what other women think of them(in terms of generally, socially, and in dating aspects.) Such as if a women were to sleep around women would judge them for it and call them something, but if a guy does it, it is different.

I think you're going to have to start by showing us how exactly a particular drug could be masculine or feminine. That just makes absolutely no sense, and your explanation for that is completely inadequate.

If you think the world is tougher for men, I will point out that women do 70% of the agricultural labor around the world, most of it hard, manual labor.

I won't even go near child birth, raising children, monthly hormonal swings, and then the joys of menopause.

Women still make about 60¢ for every dollar that men make. We still don't have many women heading up major corporations, or becoming President. The world is tougher for men? Okay.

ill state some facts for ya guys here:

A: drugs affect hormones

B: testosterone replacement therapy has been advertised on TV

C: I was basing the viewpoint of women based on what I heard on a talkshow on a "Women's" network. A women testified to that fact, and I already backed that up with a fact based example.

D:drugs affect emotions, some drugs can even can so far as to subtly affect emotions of fear. or fear induced emotions.

E: that picture by Recluse was funny

F: Olga I'm not even going to argue your points, only gonna say that raising a child sucks(not a fact.)

and aurochs u totally misunderstood what i was saying, and basically said "you're stupid, please explain yourself."i admit saying stuff about sweating was basically illogical

One woman can speak for all women? Again, do you actually know any women?

Oh man, this thread just makes me want to face-palm repeatedly.

Blart, just...stop. You're making all these sweeping generalisations about the roles of women and men in society, and it seems like you lack the ability to critically analyse information that you come across. Just because one woman said something doesn't necessarily make it true or representative for most women's experiences.

Your statements about medication also makes no sense. Why is sweating "feminine"?

You're claiming that certain drugs are better for men or for women because of their effects on emotion, primarily fear. Based on what you're saying, I can draw the conclusion that you think that while men are supposed to be absolutely fearless, it's acceptable and even socially desirable for women to have some amount of fear. Never mind that I haven't found that to be the least bit true. And never mind that fear is unpleasant for everyone, and the intensity of fear that would require treatment with psych drugs especially so. So yes, I'm going to find your posts not only patently ridiculous, but also pretty fucking offensive, to both men and women.

It can sometimes be rough, I imagine, being a man.

It can be tough sometimes, being a woman.

I had "too much" testosterone in my late teens-early twenties, and it made my face break out. A lot. It sucked.

I couldn't take "the pill" after age 35, because it almost made me batshit insane.

So....I guess there Can be "too much of a good thing" as far as hormones, Eh?

Med side effects? For me: Mostly too-sleepy-like. For other people: Dunno.

I'm feeling rather annoyed by this thread, simply because of the sheer amount of misinformation and oddness it presents. I will give it bonus points for originality, but that's about it.

I just can't argue back at this point.... I am tired. It would be a waste of time. It's so odd that I simply... I don't know how to respond.

Just wanted to quickly point out to anyone new, that, like, threads like these are the reasons why we say we aren't doctors, and that it's important to realize this is the internet, where anyone can say anything..... so just a quick reminder to check your sources for anything that you read on here.

Um, yeah.

only gonna say that raising a child sucks(not a fact.)

What? I'm confused about this more than the rest (actually, I was confused by the rest of what you were writing as well, this just stuck out more). Do you have kids? It's incredibly hard sometimes, but it's the farthest from suckiness of any job I've had.

Also, if Depakote makes a lot of people fart, is that a feminine or masculine drug? Because I'm pretty sure I'm a lady, and ladies don't fart, but I fart all of the time, which makes me think that maybe the Depakote is turning me into a man. I'm going to ask my pdoc...

this is the internet, where anyone can say anything.....

You mean like, "Eating bananas cured my MI, I am sure of this because I've been eating a lot of bananas lately, and I'm starting to feel better. (the lithium & AD increase at the same time were just a coincidence)"

Sadly, there have been times in my life that I believed such things, because I was really fucking crazy.

Speaking of cigarettes, I smoked like a chimney tonight. Does that make me a man now? I think I might've been glowing a bit, but definitely not sweating.

also read my lips about the facts that i just wrote down first off yes my first statements didnt make sense, and we were past that, but you keep nailing on that post. so keep your eyes on my last post, the facts post

again your attacking my first post which i was pretty straightforward and clear afterwards with the facts post. So that there would be nothing else to attack. you're basically attacking a flawed argument, which im not even going to address, cause i know i wasn't being clear in the first post. I wasn't thinking clearly and my thoughts weren't connecting. Personally I have felt shameful feelings at times, and I guess because I'm not talking as a woman than this has no relatable meaning or clear relation to you. and i won't address the things you have that you think are offensive, because u can deal with that.

::::::and another thing here not related to vapour is the shame feelings. There is no doubt that mental illness comes with it some feelings of shame. Especially those that have been bullied, to not even address those feelings, shame has a great deal to do with those suffering with MI. Personally dealing with feelings of shame is a big deal for me.The originality is talking about feelings of shame, a new concept maybe?? or maybe not

Again, you completely ignore my question, which was based off your so-called "facts" post. I will repost it, as I am just a silly girl who doesn't know any better, la de fucking di.

This, I take it, is what you're referring to as your,"facts post."

A: I think it's more reality based to say drugs and hormones interact.

B: Having been advertised on tv hardly demonstrates the beneficial qualities of anything.

C: What a single woman says, on a single talk show, cannot be regarded as fact. It's her opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

D: If your meds are somehow inducing fear, you need new and different meds.

E: That picture was indeed funny.

F: Olga's post was full of actual verifiable facts, which you unsurprisingly choose to ignore in what you're calling your fact post.

This is absurd.

There's a big difference between "drugs affect hormones" and "drugs and hormones interact." One is one-way (yours), the other is multi-directional (hers.)

And you're apparently not sorry that you offended anyone else, nice.

Fact check now links?

We don't have a women president. Not saying that a women shouldnt be president, but she shouldn't just be a president based on the fact, that oh "look there's a woman candidate, let's vote for her, cause that's somethign special"again, not even going to bring up the fact about the world and it's relation to anything because we got 8 women against one guy here so.

OK, now that the dust has settled. Drugs do interact with hormones. the best example of that being risperdal which causes gynecomastia(sp?) and in some people milk discharge(might be a HOUSE tv show stretch of the truth)*end transmission* probably

Your "facts post" did nothing to fix the flaws in your first post. Really, it only made them stand out more, because it was trying to support the ridiculous arguments you originally set out to make.

Also, I am male, if you didn't already know that. And I find this thread, and your responses to it, offensive to men.

i won't address the things you have that you think are offensive, because u can deal with that.

No, I think you're the one who needs to deal with being purposefully offensive for no reason. That's called "being an asshole."

SOME drugs MAY interact with hormones SOMETIMES.

Which leads to the questions SO WHAT?

There is no such thing as a bad or evil drug. They are tools. It is not a reason to badmouth or denigrate psych drugs as a whole.

It is not a reason to reject medical treatment or psychiatry.

NOW. How about discussing something with intellectual value..... ;)

I'm not aware of any other positively identified interaction between psych drugs and sex hormones. The primary side effects of hyperprolactinemia in men are reduced sex drive and gynecomastia, either of which can be very good reasons to try a different drug. So I'm not really sure what your point here is.

Everything Olga said is common knowledge to the culturally literate. Asking her to fact check any of it would be like asking for a fact check on the statement, "The sky is blue."
