ladyturkey217
I was recently diagnosed with BP2 and I'm up to 100mg of Lamictal, soon to reach the theraputic dose of 200mg. When I was hypomanic I was SUPER sexual, which was actually pretty damn awesome. I'm worried that with my new meds I will lose all desire for sex. Is this something I should be on the lookout for? Is there any hope for me if this does happen? I'm trying to reconnect with my husband who left after many months of my hypomania (undiagnosed at the time), and I would hate for him to come back to a wife who can't deal with sex. Doesn't really seem fair to him, you know? Any thoughts?
rowen
Heh, a lot of us have wild sex, even with the meds. You'll probably find your desire decrease since your mood won't be hypomanic, but it won't go away totally. It will probably just go back to what it naturally is at baseline. Prepare your husband for that! I've never personally had a med kill my sex drive. I've had meds give me sexual dysfunction, which killed my sex drive. I'm not on said meds anymore, and now I have crazy sex when I have the time - I lead a busy life. Lamictal doesn't cause sexual dysfunction to my knowledge, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you do find yourself stuck on a med on the med-go-round that causes sexual dysfunction, make sure to let your doctor know. Sometimes they can give you something to treat the dysfunction, or they'll switch you to something else.
Anna
yes, lamictal isn't one known to cause sexual dysfuncttions, really, so you should be alright. granted you will no longer be hypo rabbit fucking if the med does what it is supposed to, so it's reasonable to expect a decrease back to more "normal" levels. The only med that truly gave me sexual dysfunction was too high a dose of risperdal, even hey, SSRIs don't tamp down my sexual illness for very long. like rowen says, if a med causes you side effects ( or any sort) on can always either treat the side effect, or switch, usually. good luck and welcome. tamagotchi
Lamictal improved my sex life. YMMV of course. Of course it's different from being hypomanic, but it's also way better than crashing after being hypomanic.
