Mankind are a herd of knaves and fools.

It is necessary to join the crowd, or get out of their way,

in order not to be trampled to death by them. William Hazlitt.

It is hard for a pure and thoughtful man to live in a state of rapture at the spectacle afforded him by his fellow creatures.

Matthew Arnold.

I've got a bad feeling about this. (Star Wars, various.)

nalgas, after a conversation in chat about who is crazier than who: None of that socialist craziness equality here in 'murica. The Constitution protects our right to be crazier than each other. Or something.

"She was not what you would call sophisticated

She was not what you would call unsophisticated

She was the sort of person who kept a parrot.

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I got married by a judge, i should have asked for a jury

My reality check bounced

I used to have a handle on life, but it broke

Doing nothing is hard work, you never know when you're finished

Intelligent doesn't have to mean educated. And Creative doesn't have to mean talented.

Favourite Quote? It's in my signature.

From too much love of living,

From hope and fear set free,

We thank with brief thanksgiving

Whatever gods may be

That no life lives for ever;

That dead men rise up never;

That even the weariest river

Winds somewhere safe to sea

- Algernon Charles Swinburne

It inspires me.

To carry on one more day.

So hey, I'm depressed... that's why I'm here.

"Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke."

My mother.

In some way her mother before her.

I'm sure someone else said it at some point but those are my sources.

There's SO MANY.

"Doctor, our insanity is not that we see people who aren’t there. It’s that we ignore the ones who are, ‘til we find ourselves scarred and ashamed walking into emergency rooms at two a.m. flooded with a pain we cannot name or explain, bleeding from the outside in.

Our skin is not impervious."

--When the Bough Breaks by Andrea Gibson

"Can you see through a wall? Can you see through human skin? X-rays see through solid, or so-called solid objects. There are things in life that exist, and yet our eyes cannot see them. Have you ever seen something startling that others cannot see? Why are some things kept from our vision? Is life a puzzle? I am filled with questions. Sometimes my questions are answered. In my heart, I can tell if the answer is correct. I am my own judge. In a dream, are all the characters really you? Different aspects of you? Do answers come in dreams?" --The log lady, Twin Peaks

"I must see new things and investigate them. I want to taste dark water and see crackling trees and wild winds. I want to gaze with astonishment at mouldy garden fences. I want to experience them all, to hear young birch plantations and trembling leaves, to see light and sun, enjoy wet, green-blue valleys in the evening, sense goldfish glinting, see white clouds building up in the sky, to speak to flowers. I want to look intently at grasses and pink people, old venerable churches, to know what little cathedrals say, to run without stopping along curving meadowy slopes across vast plains, kiss the earth and smell soft warm marshland flowers. And then I shall shape things so beautifully: fields of colour…" ---Egon Schiele

"Since you walked out on me

I’m getting lovelier by the hour.

I glow like a corpse in the dark.

No one sees how round and sharp

my eyes have grown

how my carcass looks like a glass urn,

how I hold up things in the rags of my hands,

the way I can stand through crippled by lust.

No, there’s just your cruelty circling

my head like a bright rotting halo."

Nina Cassian

"I walk. I talk. I shop. I sneeze. I’m gonna be a fireman when the floods roll back. There’s trees in the desert since you moved out, and I don’t sleep on a bed of bones."

--Buffy (“Restless” - Season 4, Episode 22)

My username actually comes from a quote from Life, the Universe, and Everything by Douglas Adams.

"The point is, you see," said Ford, "that there is no point in driving yourself mad trying to stop yourself going mad. You might just as well give in and save your sanity for later."

Another wonderful quote, by Matt Groening:

Love is like racing across the frozen tundra on a snowmobile which flips over, trapping you underneath. At night, the ice-weasels come.

I have this tattooed on my left forearm:

"He thought the world´s heart beat at some terrible cost and that the world´s pain and its beauty moved in a relationship of diverging equity and that in this headlong deficit the blood of multitudes might ultimately be exacted for the vision of a single flower."

- Cormac McCarthy, All the Pretty Horses

and another personal favorite:

"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patters that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery." - Cormac McCarthy, The Road

and this:

"Past the flannel plains and blacktop graphs and skylines of canted rust, and past the tobacco-brown river overhung with weeping trees and coins of sunlight through them on the water downriver, to the place beyond the windbreak, where untilled fields simmer shrilly in the A.M. heat: shattercane, lambsquarter, cutgrass, saw brier, nutgrass, jimson-weed, wild mint, dandelion, foxtail, spinecabbage, goldenrod, creeping Charlie, butterprint, nightshade, ragweed, wild oat, vetch, butcher grass, invaginate volunteer beans, all heads nodding in a soft morning breeze like a mother’s hand on your check. An arrow of starlings fired from the windbreak’s thatch. The glitter of dew that stays where it is and steams all day. A Sunflower, four more one bowed, and horses in the distance standing rigid as toys. All nodding. Electric sounds of insects at their business. Ale-colored sunshine and pale sky and whorls of cirrus so high they cast no shadow. Insects all business all the time. Quartz and chert and schist and chondrite iron scabs in granite. Very old land. Look around you. The horizon trembling, shapeless. We are all of us brothers." - David Foster Wallace, The Pale King

I also have a Wallace quote tattooed on my right forearm - you can view it here:
