Help! Lamictal terrifying dreams

Recommended Posts

Hi there. Help!

I have been taking Lamictal for 5 weeks now (for BPII) as a mood stabiliser, titrating slowly up in dose. Initially I had some lovely runs of a very happy state but this wore off.

I have stabilized incredibly, functioning more than I have for a year EXCEPT I am having increasingly bad dreams every morning before I wake up. These dreams seem to pull an issue out of my life and amplify bad feelings. They are hard to wake up from and I have brain fog all day.

I only got up to 50mg before I had to decease again as they were just too disturbing.

Has anyone else had this ? Does it fade with time? Anything help it go? Other than these dreams this med is working for me. I also take 50mg Zoloft (which is doing nothing) and occasional Valium.

Any experiences appreciated THANK YOU.

Yep should not have catapulted down in dose so fast! (from 50mg to 25mg)... even at this low dose Im feeling it, Im as dumb as a goldfish, have the murderous irrits and bottoming out mood wise. But the dreams continue, and they are too terrifying to consider. arghhhhh ... lost in the loop.

Sorry about your bad dreams. When I first started Lamictal, I also had terrible nightmares. After a week I went back to the pdoc and he reduced the dose of Wellbutin I was on, and kept me on the regular titration for Lamictal, to my current dose of 200 mg. Maybe reducing the zoloft, or some other drug that is not playing well with the Lamictal, would work to get rid of the dreams.

The Lamictal has been a wonder drug for me and I would give up just about anything to keep taking it. I'd call the pdoc asap if I were you so you don't have to suffer. Good luck.

Thanks Catnapper. So the dreams eventually went away for you? And youve been on your full dose now a while?

I am going to Pdoc Tuesday so hopefully I will get it sorted out. I noticed you have taken Provigil in the past. Do you recall what that was like for you? Its just something my Pdoc has suggested (as well as Topamax) as an alternative.

thanks again for sharing your experience.

x Quinn

Yes, the dreams went away as soon as the Wellbutrin dose was lowered, and have never come back. I've been on the 200 mg Lamictal / 300 mg Wellbutrin combo for over two years now with no problems, and good results.

I was prescribed Provigil as an adjunct to Wellbrutrin some years ago during the middle of a really bad depressive episode. I didn't have any effect from it all, good or bad. It was a total waste of time for me.
