The Emperor
So I've had BAD reactions to SSRI's in the past, but I was never on a mood stabilizer at the same time. Now my p-doc wants to add Lexapro to help prevent me from becoming depressed. He said he's putting me on the dose he'd give an eight-year-old (5mg) because of my history with SSRI's. It looks like we're staying at 5mg too, unless something goes wrong and I get depressed again. So, really, would 5mg do anything at all? And is it less likely for me to have a bad reaction to the Lexapro while I'm on a mood stabilizer as well? P-doc kinda made it sound that way, but I kinda thought that it would be stupid to assume that nothing bad is going to happen to me because I'm on 150mg of Lamictal. I'm still scared of the damn SSRI.
confused
2 of the meds I take are lamictal and lexapro. I take 200mg lamictal and 10mg lexapro. I also take 20mg abilify which I think may help keeping me stable. I was resistant to try an anti-depressant because I was worried it would trigger mania. When I finally did, I felt such relief and wondered why I waited so long. I don't know if the lamictal and abilify will work as well for you, though. I would keep an eye out for any signs of hypo/mania while you start.

I -personally- don't see how it would because it's not the best anti-manic. I felt really good when I was on lexapro and lamictal. I was taking 5mg along with the Lamictal which did wonders for the depression. If my old pdoc had not screwed with my cocktail I might still be taking them. However, I am way more sensitive to meds than most people.
Aurochs
I'd say try it. You're less likely to have mania issues with both the Lamictal and the Abilify on board, and it could well be just the thing you need. Lots of people who are sensitive to SSRIs on their own have no trouble with them while they're taking a mood stabilizer.
The Emperor
Thanks guys. I'm really afraid to take it, to be honest. I hope that having a mood stabilizer would help. I'll try it. SO is about to have four days off work, so I'll start it on his first day off in case things get bad.
Anna
I would try that given you've never had mood stabilizer(s) on board. And I say that as bp !, not II. Lots of bp II can get by with an ssri when mood stabilized. hell, my sis is bp 2 and she takes wb with no mood stabilzer at all, and was on zoloft in the past. she only has trouble if she goes too high. Anna Now granted, I cannot take any SSRIs, period, but I've had ample time to test the mood stabilizer/ssri theory on myself, heh.
