VaseaDude
I feel frequently weak and vulnerable emotionally or meek. I tend to lower my eyes and 'contract' in my mind... feeling pressure inside my head and not being at ease with my situation or surrounding. This is how I feel most of the time and I remember before I wasn't like that. I wonder if it's the meds that make you feel that way or it's something else? After all, I think meds that are supposed to make you docile or submissive(they get you out of psychosis after all) should make you feel that way. Has anyone else noticed this from AP meds? Anna
no, i've never felt 'emotionally weak' from aaps, just a bit tired and at times numbed out. i wonder if you are confusing the physical feelings with emotional feelings. it might be worth discussing with pdoc, however. anns
domovoi
i think you are experiencing mood symptoms - sounds like depression rather than something risperdal or any other AP may do. yes, they are called "tranquilizers" which means they are supposed to calm you down but that effect is usually limited to making you sleepy. what you describe is more likely a mood symptom and warrants bringing up with your doctor. VaseaDude
@Anna: Im definitely not confusing emotional symptoms with physical ones, I get plenty of the other type as well. ANd yes, in what I am describing I feel these both emotionally and physically, as pressure inside my head. @domovoi: is there a certain type of depression that has these symptoms I am describing? Please refer me to an info source if you can, I'd like to find out more. I always thought depression is just feeling sad and gloomy.
AnneMarie
What you describe sounds more like a symptom of depression than a med side effect. Atypical Depression Summary of Depression ETA to say that there is A LOT on the web about symptoms of depression. Google for more info.

I have been of and on risperidone several times in my life. I have a love/hate relationship with it. Personally, risperidone makes me not necessarily more at ease with my surroundings but easier to integrate myself into it. I remember being depressed on risperdal, that is until we added an antidepressant so I could atleast feel 'normal'. However, still I felt less depressed but still sorta disconnected emotionally from everthing. I am on Zyprexa now and I find this to be a very effective alternative to risperidone. I don't feel emotionally blunted AT ALL like I did on the risperidone. but, who knows... maybe when I get the nerve I will add a little risperidone back into my cocktail one day.
