Febrile seizures and Wellbutrin

Recommended Posts

I am tapering off Effexor right now and plan to start Wellbutrin (XR) in its stead. I hadn't actually thought about this before because it's such ancient history (ahem), but back when I was a wee little toddler I had a couple of febrile seizures. I've never had any sort of seizure since. I know febrile seizures when young tend to be in their own little class and don't usually count as "real" (worrying) seizures, so I'm wondering whether having had these febrile seizures as a kid counts as "having a history of seizures", and whether it's something that I should tell my pdoc about before starting Wellbutrin. Does anybody here know whether this might increase my risk of having a seizure on Wellbutrin?

Definitely a wise idea to inform your doc about them. But, to my knowledge, febrile seizures are not a disqualifier for Welly.

Welly :) I like that. I suppose I'll tell my pdoc next time we meet, although I hope she won't change her mind about the Wellbutrin, since it was my suggestion in the first place and I have, unwisely, pinned my hopes on it.
