YAY! i can actually have a life now! this med is the only one i LOVE taking.... NO MORE AKATHISA!! the BEST ive been on! i just wanted some advice on this. i take quel xr for schiz. and im happy being on it. no weight gain. im actually getting thinner! and exercising EVERY DAY. i just wanted to ask you guys, for any of you who found an antipsychotic that has worked for schiz. do you find after a while you can "lower" the dose and cut it back a bit? call me paranoid but the lower the dose of an AP your on the less likely having long term side effects yes like TD are..??? for example after a year on 1200mg would goin down to 1000mg for a while then again after a while to 800mg then so on?? so basically having the same effect at lower doses after while to prevent unpleasant "long term" side effects.. tell me what you think!! I really think if you stick with the current dose it is safer. when you find what works dont tamper w it. (Speaking from experiance. ) Iwas on seroquel for years, symptom free but the weight gain was killing me so we switched to Geodon and I ended up w TD. Anna Posted June 18, 2011 Share Posted June 18, 2011 I do actually think I've heard docs kick around the idea that if you are on high doses it's a slightly increased risk of Td, but I don't know if they were just shooting the shit or not. That said, prophylaxis, generally, can often be different than acute states. i've never really been afraid to reduce things with the knowledge that I can go back up. the only problem would be if your symptoms cause you lack of insight or something like that. Like, lets say you drop to 1000 mg and then decide the quel is poisoning you, that might be a problem. So it's definitely a convo to have with yr doc, really.
