gizmo
My pdoc prescribed me ambien to take since I am in a mood epis mode (mainly agigitated depression) and I can't sleep. Or stay asleep. He scripted me 10mg pills. Well, they aren't working. I'll take 2 (1 does nothing) and fall asleep around 11-11:30 and I'm unable to get back to sleep by 3:30-4. Of course his office hours are Tuesday through Thursday. Yesterday I was so desperate to sleep that I took 10 mg about 6 am and got 90 minutes of sleep. Is this common? I just increased my depakote to 1500mg ER at night, and increased zologt by double to 200 mg. But my sleep issue preceeded that. I guess I'll just call him on Tuesday and see what he thinks. WTF, I just got off several meds I couldn't afford, now it looks like I'm getting on more. If I could sleep my usual 11-8, I'd be fine!
water
I know many people who ambien does nothing for. It works for me but I do remember my pdoc saying I could also try something else, was it sonata? Then there is the ambien extended release. That did not work for me at all but maybe that would help you. It releases the med slowly throughout the night. Ambien does only work for a few hours and when I first took it, I would bolt awake at 3:00 am. But now after months of taking the med I can fall back asleep again pretty easily. Maybe you need to to give it a few more days? I don't know.
Anna
Ambien effect is about 4--6 hours I believe. the er extends that slightly. I think one time in a ME, my doc had me up to like, 25 mg of er ambien, but ambien does work on my brain pretty well. For some people it just....doesn't. I'd be expecting you to be slowed down by the dep but that can really take a week or two. The zoloft may be sending you upwards, it certainly did me. so it may not be creating yr sleep problems, but contributing to them if you know what I mean. do not forget, there are other sleep options out there besides ambien, so you might want to explore something different. Lady Krazy Kat
It's not unheard of, as the previous posters stated. I used to be on Ambien. While it did work for me most nights, there were occasions that it did absolutely nothing for me. It sounds like you need something different. Catnapper
Taking it on an empty stomach makes a big difference, it works much better then. I found that the Teva brand generic was crappy, and other generics seem to work better for me. I've never had the name brand version.
