Ive been told Abilify is an activating AP... What does that mean? I started taking it before bed and now I can sleep... So is my brain just weird or does it kick in later or does activating have a different meaning than how I'd interpret it (literally)? Thank ya.

My impression is that "activating" means the drug gives you extra energy. Much like a caffeine kick. It can be good if you are needing that extra energy, or it can be bad if it's making you too restless instead.

Abilify has the general reputation for being activating - I remember receiving advice to take Abilify in the morning by my old pdoc when I was first prescribed it; I guess he was under the impression that it would activate me.

However, my experience with Abilify was that it was a sedating drug. I would take it at night and would get a good night's sleep out of it. So, I guess it goes to show that psych drugs can be a bit unpredictable sometimes.

Maybe it's just not activating for you. It doesn't have to be activating for everyone. For example The Emperor finds it sedating too. I myself don't find it activating or sedating. I take it in the morning. It doesn't affect me either way.

I found on lower doses 5mg or less it was activating but any higher than that I was sedated beyond functionality. I think it just depends on how you react to it where your sedation point will be.
