AdamON2000
Hello I've been taking abilify now for lil over 7 weeks, the idea of taking this med was to replace the 2 current meds that I'm on(Lithium, Zyprexa).. But I cannot tolerate the med so I reduced it 3 nights ago from 15mg to 7.5mg and which I then plan to take for 1 week then reduce the 7.5 to 3.75. The question is though do I need to be this cautious? Can I just stop taking it all together since I've been only taking it for a short period of time? Kinda wanna get this out of my system asap since I've been having a lot of side effects from in - Insomnia, increased anxiety, depression, lack of appetite, very tired but wide awake at the same time, vomiting and diahrea, muscle twitches. thanks, Adam
netsavy006
I think a slow taper would be better to reduce withdrawal side effects, but even more important is does your prescribing doctor know what you are doing? I'd communicate with the doctor about what you are experiencing and see what the best course of action would be for you.
Cetkat
It won't physically hurt you to go off this med quickly. However, your side-effects will be much worse the quicker you go. I would go a bit slower myself. However, it's ultimately up to you. If you find the effects bearable, then you could continue.. if not, raise the dose again and take it more slowly. jarn
You should find out how to come off from your pdoc.
Guest Vapourware
It is best to communicate with your doctor about your intentions about Abilify before you come off it. Your doctor should know about this because they can help you come off it and also formulate another treatment plan for you. In any case, a slow taper usually works, but again - talk to your doctor first.

What symptoms are you looking to treat with these meds? My biggest concern about stopping abilify would be your symptoms, whatever they are, returning. You really need to call your doctor, to figure out how to discontinue abilify, while still managing your symptoms.
AdamON2000
Just ended up stop taking after I tapered it to 3.5mg.. No real withdrawls afterwords, just feel a lot better now that I stopped but still have some depression.. Told my doctor what I was doing he didn't say that it was bad only that it caused me more problems then good..
Sras
I was on 10mg and came off without tapering. Didn't notice any withdrawal and I'd been on it for several months. I suggest you have a chat to your doc first.
