Can you please look at this email to pdoc?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

So lately I've had movement issues - I have another thread about it in this forum, hope it's okay I'm starting this one - and I think it's the Abilify. I emailed my pdoc (via his admin) and he told me not to take Cogentin or Benadryl for it.

Yesterday and this morning I've been having fine trembling, when my hand is at rest.

I've been very angry and discouraged at the thought of dealing with my pdoc.

Can you guys look at this email and tell me what you think? I've tried to keep it short.

Hi XX,

I’m sorry to bother you and Dr. X, but in addition to the previous incidents of shaking and twitching, I’ve been having fine trembling over the past few days. I think I’ve eliminated caffeine as the possible culprit for the trembling.

I’m a bit concerned about this, and that I don’t seem to be supposed to do anything about it as per Dr. X’s last instructions not to take Cogentin or Benadryl.

Does Dr. X think this is not likely to be the Abilify and that’s why I’m not supposed to take anything for it? I have a physical next Tuesday and am still waiting for my blood test results to come in, but I think other than being overweight I’m fairly healthy. I am exercising regularly.

At any rate, I’m concerned that all of this will get worse if I don’t see Dr. X until September (the 12th). That said, I don’t want to be a pain or anything, but if you could please let me know that would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Looks good. I would possibly say that you have eliminated caffeine rather than that you think you have. Also, if your method is strong (like cutting it out of your diet), I would include that.

I also would probably be more blunt about the fact that you need something now by saying something like, "these symptoms are not something I can tolerate between now and September, so I would like to at a minimum come up with a plan over the phone."

I am glad that you are attempting to do something about this!

It's just my opinion, but I think that more direct, less apologetic language would serve you better. (My reasoning is that you are paying them to take care of you, you don't owe them shit, they owe you their full fucking attention. You don't have to apologize for anything, you are paying them to put up with you, and you are paying them for a standard of care that they should damned well deliver without being pleaded with.) Also, the details of your physical and blood work aren't terribly relevant to the email, at least from my glance.

Maybe something like this:

Hi XX,

Previously I reported shaking and twitching, which has continued, however over the last few days I have also developed a very fine tremble that won't stop. I have eliminated caffeine from my diet, but it continues unchanged.

I'm very concerned about this, and it needs to be brought to your attention. It's worrying and disruptive, and I am afraid that this is going to get worse or become permanent.

I was told not to take Cogentin or Benedryl, or really do anything about it. Does Dr. X know whether or not this is caused by the Abilify? Is that why I'm not supposed to take anything for it?

My next appointment with Dr. X is on September 12th, however the persistent trembling is concerning me, and I'm not sure I can wait that long. I don't want to be a pain, but I'm sure you can see why this is bothering me. If you could please let me know, it would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Thanks all.

I will make the email more assertive.

Quick note - I'm Canadian, so except through taxes, I don't pay.

(and I haven't eliminated caffiene, but I had the trembling this morning after having only a sip of diet pepsi, so it can't be that)

We're not supposed to email my pdoc directly (I don't know why, but I was told that after I once contacted him directly).

I have asked for a sooner appointment and been told no, so that's why I didn't ask for one. I don't care if he gives me direction over email via the admin, as long as he's willing to address this.
