Hypomania Fallout Prevention Techniques

K so I'm firmly in Hypo-mania land. Yay for me! Right!? NO!!!

Step1 - Give husband all forms of payment, credit cards, debit cards, checkbook.

Step 2 - ?

What else can I do to keep the damage to a minimum? Yes, I've got a doctor appointment for the 15th. I'm calling tomorrow to see if they have any cancellations and can get me in sooner. What else do I need to be doing?

how's your sleep going? if off-kilter, do you have any emergency meds that can keep it in check.

reduce stimulation as much as possible...i.e no loud crazily busy with people sorts of places. but that might just be me.

I don't know what particular symptoms you experience, but if your driving gets nuts, minimize that as much as you can. Hmm...when I get hypomanic, the damage I do is mostly in the form of having inappropriate conversations with inappropriate people (exes and people who have pissed me off a lot), and now I just make myself wait 24 hours before starting that sort of conversation. By then I've forgotten or moved on to something else. So there's that.

Other stuff could be...

Do soothing things. Bubble baths, yoga, meditation. They will feel boring.

Set a schedule for your daily activities so you don't get obsessively sucked into one activity, or get distracted by a million others. I'm usually researching nine things at once or painting for like ten hours unless I've got a schedule that tells me, Hey, this behavior, yeah, it's kind of weird, so do something else.

I usually try not to go out if i don't have to, lay low as much as possible. Emergency meds, come here and get my butt kicked for not calling the doc... ;) Hiding the $ is a good idea. If I'm feeling hypersexual staying away from men other than my husband is helpful. Like danceintherain said, stay away from busy places/reduce stress as much as you can; I get twice as wound up even just grocery shopping. It's a bad thing to be in public when you can't stand noise or people in your space.

stay understimulated as much as you can.

call immediately for backup meds.

write down your hypo sx (hopefully you have these already) and review possible coping skills as needed.

depending on level of functioning, take time off work if you can

sleep hygiene, dark therapy, etc.

Okie Dokie. Got a cancellation appt with my pdoc for tomorrow. It's only a week early but hey, it's something.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I think I can hang for another day without doing something completely stupid. Although I might have a lot of dancing and cleaning going on until then. laugh.gif

Oh and about driving, i DID find myself driving too fast and crazy-like. I'm not going anywhere today. I have no money now. HAHAHA

good deal on the money, i've started doing that too. good that you are getting in to see the doc. sometimes I just go out and walk with some music on my shuffle. i try to avoid porn generally but if my sex drive is going crazy and my wife isn't available and in the mood.... hey, it's safer than the alternatives.
