ImNotOk
Hi folks I'm not really quite sure where to post this. Mods, if you think it should be moved then please feel free! Embarrassingly, I'm in need of some quick $$ to pay for some art lessons that I'm hoping will help me improve my craft. Have any of you ever gotten paid to donate plasma? I'm a burnt-out nurse & aware of what is involved in it, but I've never done it. I've researched it online and called 2 local donation centers to ask them, but didn't really get a definitive answer. One said that if I was otherwise healthy I would have to get my doc to sign a form giving me permission to donate while taking this med. Well, with my doc, this could take forever. A form such as this one could sit on his desk indefinitely..The other donation center (there are only 2 that I'm aware of in my area) told me that they couldn't tell me over the phone but would I would have to come in and see. Right now, I only take my generic Adderall 20 mg twice per day and no other meds and am otherwise healthy. As an aside, my parents are horrified that I would even consider doing this! So, I called my sister to get a reality check and she said that she doesn't see anything wrong with doing it 1 time, but any more than that would be crazy. Not quite sure how once is very different from twice, but there you go. I definitely don't want to go around with huge tracks on my arms and get mistaken for a junkie, nor am I someone who particularly enjoys getting stuck. But sadly, right now, the pay sounds like a lot of money to me... I now wish that I could edit my username to ImDoingMuchBetterNow or the like, because the meds really do help me feel more normal, balanced, and kind. Thanks in advance to all who reply! saveyoursanity
You will probably have to have a form signed by your doctor, as that's what they had me do. If your pdoc would take forever with it, do you have a general practitioner that would be okay with signing the form?
ImNotOk
My primary md is my Adderall prescriber. There were no specialists in my area that would take my insurance. I felt quite lucky to find a GP that would dx and prescribe rx for me. He had me come in twice, then told me that I could call for refills on my meds, which I did on a Tues. I called back to check to see if my refill script was ready on Wed. It wasn't. I called back on Friday. It wasn't. Well, then he went on vacation & told his nurse not to worry--his partners would cover any unfinished business such as taking 30 seconds to print my refill. The following Monday, no prescription. Tues went by--no prescription. By Wednesday, I'd been out of meds a couple of days and was really struggling. I kept being told that the doc had been notified, but was too busy to take care of it. On Thurs., I went to the office to wait for 3 hrs. only to be told that the printer was torn up and they couldn't print my prescription. They kept on telling me while I was waiting that he was seeing patients and couldn't just stop to take care of my refill. I reminded them that tthough my own doc was out of town, I was a patient too, and this guy is supposed to be covering for him. They said they double-booked him even though they knew my doc was going on vacation!!! I was told to come back Friday AM as close to opening time as possible (8 AM). I was there at 8:05 AM and was told that he was in a meeting and wouldn't be out for at least an hour. Well, I lost it... I reiterated what I was told and also added that it was insane that he couldn't take his hand and write a prescription the day before anyway, blah, blah, blah. I shudder to think what getting my next refill will be like. So, now you can see that I'm hoping I don't have to get a form signed by my MD just to donate plasma. You will probably have to have a form signed by your doctor, as that's what they had me do. If your pdoc would take forever with it, do you have a general practitioner that would be okay with signing the form?
ImNotOk
No...I FINALLY got my prescription after I lost my cool. Up until the end, I was really, really nice. When they told me that the doc covering for mine was in a meeting and I said, "Ya know...this place is really somethin" and reviewed the events, I was called back into a pre-exam room and had a hand-written prescription in about 10 minutes. I will say that by that time I had really begun to question how badly I needed the rx. But you know, when things get so much better, it's easy to forget how bad they were before rx. I was darn near suicidal after being undiagnosed and untreated and wondering for so long why success eluded me. I'm not ready to go back there unless there is no other choice. Well, you know, look on the bright side. Now you're off of Adderall and doing the plasma donation shouldn't be a problem.
