ohhmydarlinclementine
I went to the pdoc on Friday and I got the okay to go off of Lexapro 15mg. I went to 10mg and have been taking it since. I didn't miss a dose but yesterday after taking 10 mg steady for 5 or so days, I got brain zaps and withdrawal like symptoms... What the hell? Why is this happening? What should I do? saveyoursanity
Basically, due to half-life of the medication, the levels in your blood weren't low enough before to trigger the 'zaps', now they are. What made you come to the decision to go off your antidepressant?
ohhmydarlinclementine
Side effects. What do I do? I'm going nuts here, I'm sick of being on it.
tryp
Well, you could try to taper more slowly. It's a pain in the rear, but you could get the smallest denomination pills you can - like 5 mgs, if they make them, then split them and try going to 12.5 mg for a while as an intermediate step. Some people also have success cross-tapering to Prozac and then tapering off of Prozac, because its long halflife makes the taper less painful. I'd call your doc and see what he or she thinks - there are a few options available to you.
Anna
There are also meds that will help the brain zaps; benzos and benadryl spring immediately to mind. I had to rapid taper zoloft: it sucked. Anna
ohhmydarlinclementine
Alright I'll call the dr in the morning...however, now that I think of it, I have some oral Lex solution from a year and a halfish ago...should I mention that to the pdoc? The zaps get better when I take my meds at night and then when I'm not focusing on them as well...but thanks!
