PeaceAndHarmony
Hey everyone! This is the first topic that I started so i am very new here. I am currently in the guinea phase as far as meds go. My list of diagnoses get longer by the day and one drug will help one symptom but exacerbate another. i am currently diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Pure Obsessional OCD, Borderline Personality Disorder, Impulse Control Disorder, Eating Disorder NOS, General Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder. I do believe that many of these overlap so I don't' think I actually have all of these. Truth be told I am not nearly as crazy as it sounds I was originally put on Paxil, which made my anxiety way worse, Celexa, which gave me scary high blood pressure, Wellbutrin, which gave me severe muscle ticks, Abilify, which gave me suicidal thoughts, Risperdol, which caused me to lactate, Geodon, which did nothing for me, and a ridiculously high dose of Seroquel, which caused severe muscle twitches and spasms, slurred speech and stuttering. Now that that is out of the way I am currently taking Anafranil 300mg for OCD, Zoloft 200mg for Depression, PTSD and PMDD, Seroquel 250mg for Bipolar depression and 1800mg of Lithium XR for mania, and 4mg of Cogentin for the side effects of the other meds. I have all the bases covered...SSRI, check, Tricyclic, check. Antipsychotic, check, Mood Stabilizer, check. I used to be dead set against meds but I know have a few that really work and the positive effects outweigh the side effects. i feel like such a pill popper but I just have to accept that I need these meds in order to be healthy. This is the worst part of treatment but thankfully I have a great Psychiatrist who really listens to me and will let me try and combination I want as long as I am aware of the potential problems and side effects. netsavy006
It's not the number of meds your on that matters. It's are they doing the job of controlling your symptoms.
Marvingirl
I am way ahead of you. I also have epilepsy, migraine and PCOS and am now on 5 oral medicines daily, several others as needed, one injected daily and several supplements. I have a medicine cupboard to make most junkies jaloux.
Guest Vapourware
You're not a "pill popper" if you're taking medication that makes you better. That's like calling a diabetic a "junkie" because they have to stick a needle into themselves every day. I've got a horde of various medication in my drawers, thanks to various failed RXs. It happens. It's the tricky side of getting better when you have a MI.
PeaceAndHarmony
Yes that I certainly true. I think I would just feel better if I could find a combo that really works. I have about 10 different meds sitting around that I tried and they did not work well or the effects weren't worth it. I would take 100 pills if it stabilized me I have thousands of dollars worth of meds that are going to waste just sitting here. It's frustrating but I'll get through it
