Damik
We were supposed to go on an easy hike today, but the road up to the trail was closed and we ended up trying to take a "short cut". It was steep and taxing. I started to feel really dizzy and I sat down. When I felt rested enough I got up and went a few more paces. Everything got real blurry and then the world started spinning. I nearly blacked out on the trail so I sat down. It was a warm day, high 70's to low 80's where we were. I had been drinking on the trail, but not a lot. I have been hiking this year but usually in the evening when it is cooler. While I was sitting down I felt my pulse it was very rapid, but otherwise if felt normal. I drank some more water, but still not a lot, and ate some salted nuts. Afterwards I felt better, but we decided to end the hike anyway. I was wondering if either the trileptal or geodon might have caused this unusual reaction. They are the only new drugs I'm on.
AirMarshall
Here is a good place to look up meds: http://www.rxlist.com/ and http://www.drugs.com/ *this also has a med interaction checker. Let's be honest. You are on a lot of meds. Most of which have some effect on the central nervous system. You did the smart thing by staying put until you recovered. Maybe you were just dehydrated or low on salt. Not a surprise either way. This doesn't mean you can't hike. Take this as a caution, to be attentive to your body; tell your hiking partners to stay close and keep an eye on you; don't over exert yourself or tackle to tough a trail without working up to it! best, a.m. (who used to hike)
crtclms
I don't know about your other meds, but Tri-leptal screws with your sodium, my husband is encouraged to salt his food my his neurosurgeon. So your electrolytes were probably a little out of whack as it is.
Anna
when I was on trileptal i drank a glass of salt water every morning. this helped me out in 2 ways, i was kinda paranoid about the salt thing (heh) and I have hella low BP anyway, so it just sort of..... helped. I think it was probably the combo of meds, not enough water, not enough salt (maybe) and just general.... maybe too much for your body. I hike in the AZ heat, but I'm weird. went on Angry Hike yesterday. Anna
Damik
What is an Angry Hike? I can't taste salt anymore, so I haven't really been having any, except for the salted nuts yesterday. Maybe that's part of the problem. Thank you everyone for the suggestions and help. I would be disappointed if I wasn't able to go hiking this year. jarn
I hike a lot, and when I was on Geodon I actually fell asleep WHILE hiking. A bit different from what you experienced, but still - your experience rang some bells with me.
DarkendHour
It might have been heat related (I'm by no means a Dr.) but I know my Geodon had a warning about heat and the bodies ability to cool itself off or something like that.. let me find an actual sourse so it makes sense, lol. I had to be very very careful when it was warm/hot outside. "you should know that ziprasidone (Geodon) may make it harder for your body to cool down when it gets very hot. Tell your doctor if you plan to do vigorous exercise or be exposed to extreme heat." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001070/ Your Geodon should have a similar warning sticker/print right on it. (unless its a sample, I don't think those have them all the time) In any case.. talk to your Dr about what happened. They will be able to give your advice on it.
