crtclms
I am not going to comment, as I am curious what others have to say. This is the Citizens' Commission On Human Rights International's website. I forget how I ended up there. http://english.aljazeera.net/indepth/opinion/2011/07/20117313948379987.html ETA: a url that didn't redirect to a Scientology site. Guest Recluse
Citizens' Commission On Human Rights International is a frontline sockpuppet of the Church of Scientology. Anything they write regarding the expose Al Jazeera printed should be taken with a grain of salt, because it will certainly be paraphrased with their anti-psychiatry agenda in mind. I would suggest watching the Al Jazeera piece without reading the CCHR's bullshit as a garnish.
Velvet Elvis
I'd rather not even have links to them up here. I've through a lot of trouble to block all their paid advertising.
Will
After not following the link (per VE's advise), but independent googling, the Al J piece was by James Ridgeway, who is a "senior correspondent" for Mother Jones, unless I am mixing up my James Ridgeways. I don't see a lot new here. The piece doesn't seem to have run in Mother J.
crtclms
I'm sorry, I had no clue what the site was about. It was just the first one that came up when I googled "risperdal al jazeera expose" for the video. My husband had seen and told me about it earlier, but didn't tell me where he had seen it, so that is why I googled for it. I didn't read anything on the site, and it wouldn't let me click through to the Al Jazeera link, so I just posted the page. It turns DH read it on slasdot.com. So I went there and found the link from there, and changed the URL in the first post. It will take you directly to the Al Jazeera site. I literally didn't know what the page was about, I am very sorry to have even given them clicks myself, sorry.
Will
crtclms: I think "no harm, no foul" applies ? I might have done the same thing. But, I'm glad Recluse and VE were alert. I think Mother Jones is fairly sympathetic on mental health issues. But, they do seem to have an anti-big pharma agenda. Who doesn't? The fact that this piece appears not to have run in MJ may say something? I don't know.
Velvet Elvis
It's still a bullshit article with tons of bias. More later.
AirMarshall
Nearly every word in the essay is dripping with acid. It's a hatchet job disguised as news. a.m..
crtclms
Okay, I agree. I felt like I was being an apologist, I was so unhappy with what they were reporting. I haven't used Risperdal, for example, but to take an admittedly untreated mentally ill man and interview him about whether or not the med that hurt him should remain on the market? My dad did a lot of research for Big Pharma, and I can't deny that he was paid to speak about his research, or that we went out to some nice restaurants on drug companies' dimes. But he was totally ethical, so ethical it actually hurt his career, because he is incapable of understanding political maneuvering. Plus, he didn't think every med was a winner. But since I was essentially raised by big Pharma, I know I am coming into it with a huge bias. I'll be back later, I just had to call the paramedics, Jason went into status.
