Damik
My prolactin levels are high. It was one of the reasons I switched off of the Risperidone (you know besides the big reason of it not working any more). Now the same thing is happening with the Geodon. Besides the unfortunate side effect of lactating what are the dangers of having a high prolactin level? Is it something I should worry about? Of course I'll mention it to my pdoc, but is this a big thing or a little thing?
AnneMarie
Definitely tell your pdoc. Actually, you should also see an endocrinologist if you want to continue the med or another that causes the same problem. There are a couple meds that can counter elevated prolactin, although trying a different AAP probably is preferred if you can get the same psych results. The potential issues of elevated prolactin levels are deadened libido and increased potential for osteoporosis when you are older. Both may be big deals, but the later is a serious long term issue. ETA: But wait, there's more. A reason for elevated levels besides AAPs is problems with your pituitary gland. Those can be significant and at least one type of tumor can be deadly. My pdoc had me see an endicrinologist who had me get an MRI to make sure my pituitary was fine. I thought it was over-kill but my pdoc and GP also thought it was the wise thing to do. Not trying to scare you, but you probably should get it checked out from a medical, not med side effect, perspective.
