Which atypical/s has worked for your anxiety?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what atypical antipsychotics has worked the best for your anxiety? I'm not talking about psychosis I'm talking about -anxiety- unless of course your psychosis and anxiety are intertwined.

I am currently on low dose Risperdal. Out of the 5 atypicals I have tried (risperdal, invega, abilify, seroquel and zyprexa). I personally found zyprexa BY FAR to be the best for my anxiety and pretty much wiping away my need for benzos completely . However at a cost...Needing 16 hours of sleep a day. I was started at 5mg. I think he should have starteed me on the 2.5's. Knowing him, I could most likely add in the 5mg zyprexa anytime I want and the pdoc would be fine with it. Hes liberal that way. And he knows me well. He keeps good track of me we see eachother frequently so occasionally he will let me tweak a med by myself. Of course it feels better if the doctor has the approval though. Is it worth it to try the zyprexa again? I guess me and my pdoc better off answering that one hmm...hmm......

Anecdotes!Experiences! any ideas to bring to the pdoc would be good.

Zyprexa for me when I was on it ages ago was the best. Seroquel I know people say that it's beneficial with anxiety but I just don't see it. I remember I used to take a 5mg of zidis and sort of slice it in half. It was a melt away sort of tablet and it was great for anxiety. If it didn't cause such the weight gain or other adverse effects than I'd probably still be on it as an as needed basis.

There should be no reason why you couldn't try 2.5 mg of zyprexa.

You might try zydis too, some people report it makes them less sleepy in that formulation.

I prefer seroquel for anxiety, but that is mainly because it makes me utterly sleepy. Next best is zyprexa but I think that may be merely replacing anxiety with insatiable hunger. Risperdal doesn't exactly make me less anxious, but tends to make me saner, in general, which decreases my overall anxiety level as I tend to get anxious over the idea of doing something Extremely Dumb.
