Alpam
Hi all, Just wondering how long does Dexamphetamine last for you? For me I find it is lasting only around 3 hours, I take my first 20mg dose when I wake up at 8am, second 20mg dose at 11:30am when I can start to feel the effects wear off, then by 3pm I can feel its worn off again and I still need it to be working. Dex is very subtle for me, I find when I take it I feel normal, it doesn't give me energy or make me perky, but when it wears off or if I don't take it I feel lethargic, tired, hard time concentrating and just no motivation for anything. I want to ask my pdoc if he will put me on 20mg three times a day but I don't think he will, I know he doesn't like me being on it (my last pdoc put me on it) and he has already said that he thinks I am on a high dose. There is no long acting amphetamine here in Aus, there is long acting Methylphenidate but I don't want to go on that.
TheTrishgu
My long acting lasts about 6 hours. Doesn't help you, but if you don't have any extended release available then your doctor shouldn't be giving YOU a hard time about increasing your dosage. Thats my thought on it. renaeden
I take 15mgs of Dexamphetamine in the morning. It lasts about 4 hours then I take another 10 mgs, another 4 hours goes by and I take another 10mgs. Some people need more than this, some people need less. It varies with everyone I think. As far as I know, Concerta (long-acting Ritalin) isn't available on the PBS if you have been diagnosed with ADHD as an adult but it is if you were diagnosed as a child. There is not much choice in ADHD meds here in Australia unfortunately. I wouldn't mind trying Adderall but there is no hope of that.
adell
I take my dex at around 12pm as well and find by 4 my feet (and brain) are encased in cement. This is frustrating for me because the dex just gets me normal and after it wears off I'm worse than usual. I wonder if taking a third dose would help me? I already find sleep pretty difficult so maybe a third dose won't hurt. Does anyone else have the post dex super fog? Also, anyone taking it 3pm or later, how do you get to sleep? I'm trying not to go the sleeping pill route. I'm using music, sounds and reading.
ldo
I find it takes about 5 hours before I notice it wearing off. So I take it at intervals. I don't get a "super fog", but I do have an energy level drop. What would happen if you cut the pills up? What happens if you take 15mg first thing, 10 or 15mg later, and a third dose of 10mg or so? I take it you don't have Vyvanse in Australia? And what's wrong with methylphenidate? Unless you KNOW that there's a problem, it might be worth trying. ------------- As far as sleep goes, I find a smaller dose, like half or a quarter of normal, actually helps me sleep. And if I wake up in the middle of the night, a little of it can help me go back to sleep. If I've had a normal dose, sometimes I can still nap, and other times it can be enjoyable and restful just lying there more calmly than I otherwise would. My most restful sleep is the hour between when I take the stuff in the morning and when it really kicks in and I get out of bed.
