TheTrishgu
I am wondering if I can get my dexadrine script filled a day early? I won't be in town tomorrow and would rather not run out. Anyone have any experience?
Anna
I believe that you can fill stim scripts a day or two early. I know I've done it. I don't knwo if that varies from state to state. Worth a try anyway... Call your pharmacy before trotting all the way down there, they will have the best info for you. Ana
AnneMarie
I think it mostly depends on your insurance. Off hand, ways around might be talking to your pharmacist who might hold you over or asking your doc for another script. I'd stop by your pharmacy first. Cerberus
It can vary by insurer, and it can definitely vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. In trying to get my kids' Concerta Rx filled in a similar situation, I've gone from one pharmacy that wouldn't even talk to me about filling it early, straight to another that did it with no problem. Also, even if they can't fill it just yet, some pharmacists will give you enough to last you the duration of your travel if it's short-term, in my experience. It helps if you have a standing relationship with the pharmacy. Good luck. It cheeses me off no end that legitimate users of these medicines have to leap through hoops to have our needs met just because of the bad apples out there who want to get high. I wish there were some way to institute a "trusted patient" program, but that would just end up getting abused, too. What's most maddening is that with my brain chemistry, I couldn't get high on Adderall if I wanted to. TheTrishgu
They won't fill it until tomorrow. Oh well.
notfred
MY insurance lets me refill when I have used 75% of my Vyvanse (same active as Dexadrine). nf
AnneMarie
They won't fill it until tomorrow. Oh well. Try a different pharmacy but go in person. It's easy to say no to someone on the phone. In person that's a little less likely.
TheTrishgu
I went down and she said no. I'm not gonna push it. I will go early in the morning since it was what I was planning on doing before I thought they might give it to me earlier. Pain in my ass, but I just got this script after years of doctors not prescribing me stimulants because of my drug past.
notfred
If you are trying to refill a script a day earlier than written that is not allowed anywhere. (Some docs give you postdated scripts). nf
tamagotchi
Insurance plans have different policies. My insurance (when I had it) allowed me to fill scripts one week early -- That is, after 23 days, for a 30 day script. On my pdoc's advice, I always filled them as soon as possible and hoarded the meds. I have also noticed a difference between pharmacies. I love my current pharmacy. Aurochs
I don't believe it's legal to write for refills on stimulants, or any schedule II drug. Nor is it legal to fill a script on a schedule II drug before the date written on the script.

It is worth noting that stimulants (sch II) have different rules than benzos (sch 4 I think), which is the other type of controlled substance a lot of people here have experience with. Anna
I think we are all kinda a bit confused here. My doc can write me a script with a certain date on it but the date has to be a few days or a week EARLY, for me to actually get it filled. If you are trying to fill a script with a future date.... that is not going to happen. However, that said, you can check with insurance company/pharmacy and see how many days early they are allowed to give you a (correctly dated) script, and ask doc to do that, if needed. Yes my son's on concerta and it's a PITA. Always having to get paper scrips with no refills and etc. That said, I have been able to fill concerta a few days early, before he has technically run out. Provided the script is dated for that day or earlier. Anna
tamagotchi
That's right, no earlier than is written, but pdoc can write a script dated earlier than the 30 days, in order to fill early, depending on insurance. Some will also write scripts for higher dosage. My sister's pdoc writes scripts for the max amount allowed, which is not how much she takes. TheTrishgu
Thanks all. I should have been more specific and asked if they could fill it earlier than what had been written on the script. I am going to ask my doctor on Monday if he can write the extra script for a couple of days earlier. That way I won't run into the problem of possibly running out before I can get it filled.
