PeaceAndHarmony
Hey everyone, I started taking Seroquel about a month ago. I started at 200mg but we went up pretty quickly (too quickly) up to 800mg. I had no side effects at the lower doses but started to have some pretty wacky effects going on. At 800mg I experienced severe slurred speech and stuttering as well has severe muscle spasms and twitches. I called my pdoc right away and we slowly came down. I do a lot of research and I usually know what is going on with things so she allows me to tinker a bit with my med dosages. I told her I still wanted to take the Seroquel but at a lower dose so she added lithium on top of it. I told her I was going down to 250 but ended up stopping at 300mg (I did call her about this and she said it was fine and to just listen to my body) because I was doing well with it. I know that I can go up more but I am hesitant. I want to attempt to take 400mg seeing as how I am not having any negative side affects with any of my meds. What do you guys think? What would you do? I know my pdoc is ok with it and I can always bring myself back down to 300mg (or lower) if I have to. I just wanted to get some thoughts and opinions from others out there Peace
AnneMarie
Do you have a symptoms that make you want to increase? Truth is, no one here can advise you adequately and you should not make your decision based on what anyone here says. This is a site to get some info on personal experiences, but personal experiences are one off info and don't take into account your full circumstance. Also, no one is a doctor, from whom you would get better advice.
PeaceAndHarmony
Thanks Stacia, I love your avatar by the way I know that no one can tell me what to do but as I said I have been in very close contact with my pdoc and she has given me a lot of wriggle room to see what works best for me. I am intelligent enough to know not to base my decision on the advice of others I guess I was just looking to see what others would do in this situation. The decision is mine and mine along. I guess the only to think to do is try the increase and see what happens. I started this thread as more a place for me to talk it out and weigh the pros and cons. I certainly do NOT want to experience the side effects that I felt at a high dose of Seroquel. If I have unpleasant side effects I can just drop back down to 300mg. We shall see what happens
bpladybug
Like you, with my doctors permission I had latitude to take 300 mgs of Seroquel or 400 mgs. I tried both. On my recent appointment my doctor decided on 300 mgs because it is controlling my symptoms. My doctor wanted to leave room to go up if I had depression or other symptoms later in the year. So our approach is to take an adequate amount of any med, but to avoid unnecessary doses. Sometimes with my bipolar we are aggressively treating symptom during an episode. Overall, when making medication decisions I try to think of this as a long term marathon. I am Bipolar 1 and will probably be on meds for life, or at least for decades. I want to control my disease but put as little stress as possible on my liver, kideys, stomache, etc. It sounds like you have a good relationship with your doctor. That is great. I am just sharing my experience.
