Amy Winehouse

Sad, sad, sad.

My cousin died at 31 last year during a struggle with drug addiction. It's just so very sad for anyone.

You have to wonder what else was going on with her. I had a sister that went on a self-medicating alcoholic skid that lasted the better part of 20 years.

She finally came out of it in the a past couple of years after a stint in jail for DUI and is looking great now. You can finally see she's back now. Been stable and sober for a couple of years now.

I think you add money and fame to my sisters situation and I don't think she'd be here anymore.

My sister also had the unconditional love and support of my Dad that I think made the difference. I wonder if Amy had that?

Guest Recluse

"At one point it had been two years since the last record and (the record company) actually said to me, 'Do you even want to make another record?' I was like, 'I swear it's coming.' I said to them, 'Once I start writing I will write and write and write. But I just have to start it.'"

This line from one of the articles about her death makes me so sad for her.

Thanks for posting the video, water. I am still so saddened by this.

The last thing I read was that she was trying to get ahold of Dr. Drew Pinsky because she was trying to detox herself from alcohol. He said he saw calls coming in from Europe, and thought WTH? but didn't answer them. Nice, Dr. Drew.

It's a tragic loss of a young, beautiful talent and a lost soul.

Liveoak, I saw Dr. Drew talk about this on his CNN show. As I heard it, he was not aware that she had been trying to reach him. Obviously you can't just pick up the phone and call him directly. You have to go through staff. So someone on the staff of one of his two shows dropped the ball in some way. He has a big heart, and if he knew she was calling hiim for help I think he would have responded. He did not know she was calling him. That is my understanding of his words. There is also the time difference element which can interfere.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I saw him say the words, "I kept getting calls from Europe and I said, What the HELL?" What I heard was annoyance, not remorse, nor regret that he COULD have saved her life. It sounded quite callous to me and/or a bid to cover his ass from a lawsuit.

He's at no legal risk here whatsoever.

These are famous people. She should have known better than to try to contact him directly rather than having her agent interface with his agent. Famous people generally don't take calls from strangers at all because odds are it's a fan or a loon.
