Hi. I'm sorry if this is something I know, and I have been trying to research, but my brain is fried.

I have a definite palm-sized irregular rash on my neck. At first I thought it was jewelry, it itches the way it does when I have on some metals. But the rash is definitely not that. I stupidly didn't look last night, because I assumed it was jewelry, and it barely itched. It is becoming itchier.

I know I am stopping it, for at least now, I am not on enough for it to be a withdrawal issue. I have contacted the p-doc on call, because mine is out of time.

Is this an emergency? If it isn't yet, might it become one? I am hoping someone can answer this fairly quickly, because if it IS an emergency, I need to let DH know, because I am his ride at 1pm (it is 10:30 right now).

I'm afraid I don't have any personal experience with Geodon, but a (much) earlier thread here on CB may be of assistance:

Rash is listed as a common side effect of Geodon, and allergic reaction is also listed as a possibility in the literature. Are there other issues that arose at the same time such as breathing difficulty? If no, and given that you describe the rash as localized, could it be possible that it could be unrelated to your Geodon - could you have been bitten by an insect or come into contact with a plant you react badly to? In any case, stay calm and make note of any progression of symptoms so you can report accurately to your doctor.

Cerberus

P.S. God help me - I looked at your thread title twice, and both times read it as "Flash Gordon". Too much sci-fi....

lol! Cerberus, I do get rashes (especially with lamictal) but this is not like a jewelry rash or rashes I have had in the past. I do suspect even if it is from the Geodon, that I just need to discontinue it, and not go to the hospital. I know if I start anaphalaxis, it is an emergency, but I couldn't tell from the warnings if just a small rash meant it was an emergency.

I will at least hear from the on-call pdoc, so at worst, I will discontinue the geodon, and move onto the next one.

He wanted me on as weight neutral an AAP as I could tolerate. I think there was one other that was not know for excessive weight gain, but even if this p-doc gives me something my p-doc doesn't like, I have an appt. for the day he gets back (two weeks).

The benadryl has made a significant difference, although it is still there. It is fainter, and has stopped itching.

For the moment, I am going to assume it is a mild allergic reaction, and if I don't hear from the on-call pdoc, I won't take it tonight.

You really shouldn't be that worried if it is merely a rash. If you have a fever or have difficulty breathing then you should go to the ER. But as someone suggested, I would continue taking the Geodon and mention this at my next doctor's appointment unless is significantly worsens.

The p-doc called back, and agreed I should stop the geodon, but wanted to remind me I just upped my Lamictal, which would be rare since I have been on it for so long, but not impossible. I am supposed to keep taking benadryl until it the rash totally clears/or doesn't clear, and I see her on Thursday. So yeah.

I'd agree that starting geodon and upping lamictal at the same time make very little sense, as, they both have capacity to cause rashes.

That said, maybe the benadryl will clear it if it's the lamictal and you can retrial the geodon later.

Rash very, very very rarely leads to immediate anaphalytic shock. That said, I understand the fears involved and do follow pdoc advice.

do you have a backup/diff aap now?

Wow, I only saw a few of these posts, I guess I didn't refresh between entries.

Okay, so you have convinced me. So my gummy worm raid was just my pre-geodon meal, and therefore has 0 calories. Thanks!

Although, from what I read, it took 4 or 5 days for the blood level to be stable. Sunday night was the 5th day. I haven't changed anything.

I am kind of desparate to get this shit under control, though.

Okay, now I have urinary retention. Badly. I am able to urinate eventually, but it is really hard to get started.

Anyone? I seem to be finding some stuff on the internet, but it is mostly just that: stuff.
