My physician prescribed me Deplin which is a very strong vitamin B1 pill as an add-on to antidepressants. I cannot tell if it is making me sleep less or not. I mean yes, I'm sleeping less but my insomnia also correlates with me stopping my concerta with the help of my psychiatrist. Concerta is extended release ritalin and stopping it should make you tired if anything.... at least that is what I would assume. I'm confused. I've only been on Deplin for about a week now and I read that it can potentially increase a lot of the key neurotransmitters involved in depression- serotonin, dopamine, and nerepinephrine.(spelling?) I currently am taking 20 mg Prozac and 20 mg Abilify. I guess I need to talk to my doctor. I see her on thursday. Anyways, I thought that Deplin might be an interesting topic because its so new and that people might want to talk to their doctor about it.

Deplin isn't really all that new, it was approved in the U.S. In 2008.

There are some existing threads about deplin which might help you get a sense of other people's experiences with Deplin.

What are your blood folate levels?

I take L-methylfolate, varying between 15-25 mg/day, under the direction of my physician and while it helps my blood folate levels I have not found it to make any noticeable difference in or for depression. I hope you will report back frequently on your response to Deplin.

My sleep seemed to improve as of last night, or more so early this morning around 2am. I was able to sleep in this morning. :-)

This all might just be one big coincidence but since I started the Deplin I've applied to community college and applied to a coupe jobs, one of which I might be getting.

My folate levels were never tested. My physician simply thought it was an ok idea because I told him how well I responded to taking a B100 complex which has a mega-dose of all the B vitamins, including folate.

Yeah, before I started taking that B100 complex in addition to a multivitamin, I was always sweating profusely and out of breath. I realize this sounds really dramatic and would tip most people off that there was something seriously physically wrong with them but I just recently got an EKG of my heart and a pulmonary function test along with a lipid panel and glucose testing, and some other testing, and believe it or not, I'm in pretty good health. I just have to lose over 100 pounds and quit the occasional smoking. I really think that the B100 complex worked wonders for me.

I am taking this Deplin as an experiment to see if my dysthymia improves. The doctor said that if it hasn't made a difference in two weeks then to discontinue it.
