Penguin
Okay so. I just started risperdal about a week ago, 2mg/day. I am also on Celexa and Lithium and Klonopin PRN, for the record. I was prescribed Risperdal to help with my racing thoughts and sometimes loose associations that I apparently get even in a depressed part of a bipolar-esque cycle. I have noticed that when I go out in public, where there is a lot of activity going on at once, my brain sort of freezes up and gets stuck. My concentration goes down the drain and small tasks become very difficult, as well as conversing with people. I am wondering if anyone is familiar with these sort of symptoms while on Risperdal, and if so, will they go away with time like my psych says they often do? Thanks! jt07
I am on 4 mg of Risperdal (started on 1 mg), and I noticed concentration problems at first. However, that has all gone away. So, yes, it does get better.
Penguin
About how long was it before you noticed improvement in that side effect? Broad estimate is fine

Broad estimate is fine You know, I don't really remember - it just improved gradually. I'm sure it was mostly gone after the first month. Right now, I don't have any problem. AnneMarie
I was first put on it for mildish mania a couple years ago, so starting was a blur. I can say that my head has been its clearest and my thinking the best while on this med. It has made a difference for me.
Anna
I find risperdal to increase my clarity of thought pretty quickly but I can say that AAPs generally, at first, are pretty brain fogging for many people, so I would give it some time. CrazyCatLady
I only started out with 0.5 mg and I had issues with my memory and concentration (I seem to be really sensitive to it). I felt very foggy and sleepy. It seems like it took forever to lessen up, though it was probably around a month or so. It definitely sucks, but give it some time and it should get better. Velvet Elvis
I've found that the cognitive side effects get better every day.
