danadowner
Hey, my name is Dana. I'm about to turn 47. I can't believe I'm that old or have lived that long. I am currently suffering from a long, untreated case of axis 1 depression. I just went to a pdoc and was previously wasting my time with a gp. This guy prescribed me Pristiq and Restoril. I don't sleep, and don't eat but maybe 500 calories a day. I have lost 25 pounds in the last year. I have always had depression issues, but now I have major anxiety that has come about in the last 6 months. I have been on the ad only 4 days, so no change yet. I am trying to hold on to my job and my life, but it's so so difficult. I also have a bunch of pets that I love, but taking care of them is becoming almost too much to bear. Well thats a short version of my story. I hope this crap works soon.
NewMe
Hi and welcome to CB. It is hard waiting for a med to take effect, we have all been there, I am glad to hear you went to a licensed PDoc for treatment GPs really aren't that good at psych stuff IMO. It takes time, that is what you need to tell your self, most Anti depressants take like 2wks? to take effect. I am sure you know this being you have been on meds before, but sometimes it is nice for someone else to say "only 2 weeks" Anxiety is awful but the great thing is a lot of ADs also work on Anxiety. Just take baby steps and work at it, that is all you can do, it sounds like you are trying very hard to cope with MI and you are doing better than a lot of people do, me I hide out in my house and dont come out when I get deep. Just try to remember the bright side, ya know Again welcome to CB, there is a great blog area and we also have a fabulous chat room. Make sure you read the rules too. I hope to see you around ~SP

Guest Vapourware
Hai and welcome to the boards. I'm sorry to hear that you are having a rough time right now. It's good that you now have a psychiatrist to help you with your issues. I hope your meds will work soon - yes, sometimes they can take a few weeks to work. Sometimes two weeks, sometimes 6-8 weeks. Also, I am a bit concerned about your eating 500 calories a day. That is bad for your body and can mess with your metabolism, because your body can go into starvation mode with that sort of eating. I think it is a good idea for you to get some help with that soon. If you don't have a therapist as yet, I suggest that you can see if you can find one. A good therapist can be worth their weight in gold and IMO an important part of recovery. Anyways, have a read of the rules and feel free to PM a staff member if you have any questions.
