Hi I'm David and I"m almost 44 years old.I have PTSD and I'm bipolar. As a kid I was diagnosed as hyperactive now known as ADHD.Now I've come to find out I may have never had ADHD at all but I was bipolar my whole life. Some of the symptoms that I had as a kid where bipolar in type the staring out in space blankly the interupting and the conduct disorders that the doc thought was ADHD in me may have been just good ole bipolar. So now I've come to find out.I see a specialist in PTSD Dr G.

I'm finding out marijuana may be good for PTSD and bipolar but my friend Britt last Sunday said in my case(David) I should not smoke weed because it might intensify my paranoia.I said that's only if someone has the paranoia genetic marker then it affects them that way.

I've smoked weed a couple of times and all it did was give me the giggles and the munchies though one time I saw stuff that wasn't there but the pot must have been lased with something.

pot can actually (rarely) cause psychosis in bipolar and schiz individuals I think, although I can't quote a source for that.

I have PTSD and bipolar too.

Welcome to crazy boards.

Hey -

Glad to have you with us. Take a look at the rules if you haven't already, and feel free to PM a staff member if you have any questions.

I don't know that there is a single "psychosis genetic marker" that determines whether pot will exacerbate your symptoms. Either way, I hope you are being honest with your doctor about everything you are taking.

Hi and welcome to the boards.

Ah yes, the giggles and munchies - not too bad as side effects go frankly. Just don't do a major shop while under the influence or you will wind up with enough high carb snack food for the next seven months. ;)

I'm almost as old as you but have depression and suspected PTSD rather than bipolar. (Is 'almost as old as' a sufficiently PC way of saying that? Perhaps 'unyoung' instead of 'old' would be better. Who knows?)

It's good that you're taking steps to get a correct diagnosis. That's where proper treatment begins.

Cheers, grouse.
