Hotmail attack

Yeah, I've had that happen to me, too, it is very annoying. Changing password should fix it (it did for me). I then just sent out a mass email to my contacts explaining I was not moving into trying to sell viagra or vacum cleaners. Heh.

That happened to me too, jt, and I know it wasn't a trojan or a virus. I was just using a not-very-secure password on multiple sites, one of them got compromised, and it finally caught up to me.

Now I only use one password for each site. KeePass has been really helpful for that. LastPass is good too.

That happened to me with Yahoomail. I had to change my password to get it to stop completely. I use the same password for everything, so this bothered me. Now I've changed most of my passwords, but they're still all the same for everything. Maybe that's stupid . . .

Keep in mind you can put any address in the "From:" section of an e-mail, it does not have to be the address of the person who sent it. So someone can send e-mail with your e-mail address in the From section without breaking into your account. SMTP/IMAP/POP3 do not check this. It is called Joe Jobing.

In my case they actually broke into my account and sent spam to my contacts. I changed the password to one that I've never used before and a little safer because I have uppercase letters in addition to numbers whereas before I had no uppercase letters. I also deleted all of my contacts. I have their email elsewhere so I don't need to store it on hotmail. Burns me up though.
