Starting SSRI part 2

Recommended Posts

I am lucky in that meds kick in very fast for me also. (at low doses too)

What I find is that they begin to help and I feel SO relieved, knowing I am feeling better, that when I get about 8 weeks or so into it and I have hit a semi-plateau

it is easy to forget how far I have come in such a short period of time. I think, "why am I not completely sane now?"  Of course by the 3rd month It has continued to improve just at a much slower pace.

That is when it helps to look back at remarks I had made to see how far I came so fast.  Other people could only hope to have such luck.

I am 5 months into my restart of paxil and last month I thought, geez is this all the better it is going to be? Then I kicked myself because this is pretty damn good!

It ain't perfect but hell I have never been perfect in my life, so normal weird me is much better than whacky out of it weird me. I will take it.

Unfortunately one of the biggest side effects of the SSRIs is sexual. Some are better than others. I could not take lexapro because it drove me up the walls and I had insomnia so bad I wouldnt sleep for days..

I took Paxil for about six months. My doctor told me that he actually gave it to men suffering from premature ejeculation... I found Paxil increased my desire, and my wife sure liked it, but it frustrated the hell out of me..

Sexual side effects sometimes go away or sometimes they take you to the point of not wanting to even hear the world sex.

It's a trial and error kind of thing. Look at the home page under the SSRIs they give good info and each talk of the sexual side effects.

I take cymbalta now. The desire has deminished some but performance is fine.. This is the first anti-depressant that is actually bringing me to a happy place.

Good Luck!

Do you think it is posible to feel changes in only 8 days of lexapro 5mg?

I've been noticing some... What do you think?

Thanks:0)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yup.  When I started celexa (that's a while ago), it started kicking in day 2.  However the side effects cleared up only after two weeks or so and I got the full antidepressant effect after about two weeks.

yeah, I agree that it's possible, though for me, I just started lex 6 days ago and I haven't noticed any effect yet. 10mg/day.

Though I've hardly noticed any side fx either, except for sleep disturbance, wake up really early. Another side fx is loss of appetite but this is a good thing for me.

I'm not sure what it is at this moment, I get a little aroused. I hope this goes away, I was pretty sexually normal, I think, before I took it. I worried a lot about sexual things (ocd) though, that seems to have gone away some so at least that is good. I don

If you can still engage in some satisfying sexual experiences with your partner, I would definitely think hard before going off the med.  Also, there are medication augmentation strategies that you can try (like adding some Wellbutrin), and I have heard of taking a drug holiday.  You should talk about these things with your doctor.

If you feel that the med works well for your obsessions please don't stop after 6 weeks only because of the sexual affects!

My experience (and hubby's too as he is also on meds) is that about the 3 or 4  month mark when everything has settled into place everthing seems to function normally again.

It may be a bit harder to get the end result but it does happen. Eventually you don't even notice it anymore.

I hope this may be the case for you also.

Another weird thing.... Today I woke up really early and felt like I couldn't breathe, well I was breathing but like it was not satisfying my need to breathe, if that makes sense... Than I got this weird tingle in my body and a burning sensation on the insides of both arms, then it went away? Could this be from the med? Or some type of anxiety induced from the med? I don't think I felt that anxious...

Im not sure if it is from the med or not. I know that I get numbness and tingling in the left side of my face and a strange burning sensation on one of my ankles. Ive asked the Doc and he says it is just a quirkiness in the nerve signals and sure the med could be causing some CNS stuff but they can also happen on their own.

I pretty much ignore it now, since it is the same things that come and go, no new symptoms ever develop so I don't think it is causing anything to get progressively weird!

Let you Doc know but don't worry about it.
