input needed for people on clozaril

Recommended Posts

What side effects are you currently having from Clozaril (clozapine) that you need to deal with?

I don't know if it was from Clozaril or another med, but I got constipation and straining. Colace helps with this side effect.

Another side effect I have which is from my med combo is dry mouth. Right now I'm drinking extra water and it seems to help.

How much Clozaril are you on and how do you take it?

If you are continuing to have seizures, you are going to have to take an anti seizure medication.

The best I can say for controlling weight gain is diet and exercise. (I know generic but that's what helps me). Though it would be another medication, Meformin is being used to help with antipsychotic induced weight gain:

ETA: Here's a site that might be able to help you with weight loss:

When you say bladder control problem during sleep, are you saying that you're wetting the bed? The only thing I can suggest is that you try not to drink anything past a certain time. If it continues I'd work with your psychiatrist and general doctor to work out what's causing it and the best possible solutions.

If there is no alarm set for me to get up, I find I can sleep from 10pm to 10am, so I see where you are coming from when you say you can't get up early. I do my best when I set the alarm to wake up at 6am on days I go to program. I don't know how I do it, but I manage to.

thanks im gonna ask about that. i don't like the idea of taking more medication but at this point i don't care lol. i should but it doesn't seem much more redundant to take another colored pill. oh and i take keppra for seizures. and dessmopressin for the peeing thing.

H3llo, weight gain, sedation, and lowered seizure threshold aren't unique to clozaril. They're pretty par for the course with AAP's.

well the other antypsychotics i took never gave me seizures or extreme sedation (besides geodon but i could still wake up early) and all that other junk. besides being on clozaril last year i also had ECT done. ECT caues seizures. so...hmm i dunno if i start thinking about it i'll go crazy. it couldnt be the ECT could it? nah

Well I can only compare clozapine to the AAPs which I have been on. Zyprexa, Serqouel, Risperdal & Geodon.

For me, its by far the most effective. Yes it makes me tired, but nothing compared to zyprexa. In fact compared to zyprexa, it is generally much better in all aspects, for me.

Also, as far as seizures etc, cloz is probably the best AAP i.e. it tends not to cause problems compared with the others.
