Sixstringkate
Took Paxil for 3 years for panic attacks. It worked great until it didn't.Then the Dr put me on Celexa for the next 3 yrs. It worked great until it didn't. Also gave my first child a cleft lip. Thanks so much for that. Now the Dr has me back on Paxil again. 20mg, didn't do shit. 30mg, took about a week to dump me in a horrible depression. 40mg (self prescribed) has been doing ok for 3 weeks, but now I'm swinging up and down. I seriously just had a mid-life fucking crisis, questioning my priorities and wondering what the hell I am doing with my life. I'm so lucky I have a very, VERY patient husband. So how can I tell if it's not working, or if I just came to a crossroads in my life? Even typing that out, I know it's bullshit. Can I legitimately expect the Paxil to work again, or should I be finding a different Dr who actually gives a crap? -Six
chimpmaster
Paxil is renowned for not working well a second time. Once you go off it, forget about it it wont work again for most people. What you are mentioning about paxil and celexa is commonly referred to as "poop out". If I were you I would discuss another SSRI with your dr. Prozac & Zoloft are good options, so is Luvox. Lexpapro may even work for you, though your experience with celexa could limit its success. You could also try Effexor or Cymbalta. Remeron may even be an option for you. Id say prozac or zoloft are probably the first two to discuss with your dr asap, as they have similar anti-panic effects as Paxil. Dont self medicate. Go to your dr asap and get this sorted out. Have you discussed benzodiazepenes like xanax, valium, clonazepam, atvian etc with your dr? These can be very effective at dealing with panic attacks, especially when used conservatively with an effective SSRI.
Sixstringkate
I know self meding is bad, but 40mg was the dosage I was on before, and I didn't know what else to do. I've got twin toddlers. They need me to get out of bed in the morning and be able to feed them occasionally. I finally got an appointment with my Dr this afternoon. Thanks for the advice on the different medications. I'm curious to see what he says. He's just a general doctor, and I've been wondering if I need to go see someone more specialized. jt07
... and I've been wondering if I need to go see someone more specialized. This is always a good idea. You can start today by asking your gdoc for a referral. It takes time to get in to see a psychiatrists - in my area, around 3 months. Start now so that you will have one when you need one.
