New and Need Advice

Recommended Posts

Hello, I've been lurking for a while, but tonight I need some advice. I have a p-doc appointment tomorrow morning. I'm a big chicken and haven't asked my boss for the time off for the appointment. Part of me thinks I should just call in sick for the entire day - however, it's a Monday and not a good day to take off (hence my chicken-ness to ask ahead for time off).

Another part of me thinks I should skip the appointment.

Help, please. Have you been in this situation? Without telling the boss that you're seeing a psychiatrist, how have you accomodated appointments during work hours?

Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

I've just said, "I have a personal appointment at X time, I'll be gone for Y hours" Nobody's ever questioned it. Everybody has to take personal time sometimes. Or You could just say "There's Something I need to take care of" Better to give lots of advance notice and work it out ahead of time if someone needs to cover your duties while you're gone.

"I have an appointment"

"I have a pre-existing meeting to attend"

"I have some things to look after - I'll be a bit late."

"I have some (personal) business to attend to"

You could show up a half-hour late and blame traffic, or not blame anything at all. Some people are just late, sometimes.

It is private what type of specialist you are seeing, and your diagnosis.

I would call in the morning and tell them you have a doctor's appt at xx hour, and you will be in to work afterwards.

don't cancel on the doctor.....

Call in sick and go to the appointment.

Try to schedule you next appt on a non-peak work load time and day. Then request time off in advance for a doctor appt. Since I don't tell my boss I have to see the GYN, I don't think you need say you're seeing a pdoc. K?

I'm lucky. My pdoc has Sat appts and my therapist evening ones. Ideal. Everyone should have it so easy.
