so my doctor thinks i have bipolar.

i dont necessarily agree, and think im too old to be diagnosed with that. although its not the frst time a doctor has brought that up before.

just wanted to reach out and hear the perspective of people who have experience, first hand, with bipolar and its symptoms.

i do have lows, but the mania part is confusing to me and it doesnt seem likely, am i in denial?

yea... so um hi

Hi 428pm.

Saw you briefly in Chat. Welcome to CB! :) There is a whole lot of information pinned in the bipolar forum, so maybe start your search there? You're absolutely allowed to lurk until you feel safe enough to post, too, so don't worry about that.

WinterRosie is right---the bipolar subforum would be an excellent place to do some reading and it might answer many of your questions. If you want to ask about what it's like to have bipolar, by all means go ahead and post a question.

I'm glad you came here and please let us know if we can help you with anything. Be sure to read the rules so you know how we operate.

Hi there. Mania doesn't always present the way people expect it to (super happy, really energetic). For many people, it can mean anger, not being able to focus, not sleeping enough, being really jittery, and lots of other symptoms. Think of the worst kind of caffeine buzz, and that will give you a little idea. I have many of those symptoms, and I also get delusional, hallucinate, and more. Not much of the happy-go-lucky maniac for me.

I too was not diagnosed early in life. My doctors believe I could mask my BPII because A) I grew up in a military home and HAD to discipline myself and my actions, or else I'd get beaten; and B) I worked with teenagers and it was expected for me to be "half-crazy", so no one really noticed. But as soon as my job changed and I started working with adults, I started losing it.

My mania was more externally noticable when i was younger. But it typically manifests as little sleep, workaholic tendencies, racing thoughts, and explosive rage / anger. I have always had two modes: Extreme GO, and Extreme STOP.

As Others have said, check out the Bipolar subforum, there is copious amounts of info there.

Welcome!
