How do I take ambien with med that requires food

Recommended Posts

My husband works late, and we eat dinner together every night, so I often wind up taking my Ambien only an hour or so after I eat, and it's fine. But do be careful to take it at bedtime, as all sorts of badness can occur if you wander around the house with it in your system.

Call the pharmacist and ask if Latuda is supposed to be taken with food for:

1) Absorption

or

2) Upset Stomach

Normally, it's just a precaution against nausea and can be ignored if it doesn't bother you. It's only rare occasions that the food will actually help the drug enter your system. If it's the former and it doesn't bother you, you don't have to worry about it.

Unfortunately, Latuda needs food to help the body absorb it. I say "unfortunately" because I dislike that I either have to eat right before bed which affects my sleep and is extra calories, or not take it with food and have it work less. I have done extensive research hoping to find out that you don't REALLY need food for it to work, but everywhere says it works 2 to 3 times better/faster with food. So, I suppose my advice to this would be to take Latuda with dinner unless it makes you drowsy and that wouldn't work, have a snack with Latuda an hour before you take Ambien, or take them at the same time and hope that they work...I mean, obviously there are rules, but if it were me I'd be more worried about my antipsychotic working than a sleeping med. Just my 2 cents :) And lol about wandering about the house on Ambien...it's trippy like smoking marijuana for me, and that's a bad thing, it creeps me out!

Edit: Weird, I have no idea how I found this thread lol, it was from typing a key word in I guess, but I suppose what I said could be used if anyone ever wondered the same thing or didn't know that Latuda does indeed require food.

I was going to say the same thing. I've had to consult with the pharmacist a few times, and their advice has been helpful every time.
