Anyone take Prodrin? I did a forum search and found no matches. It was just prescribed to me for migraines. I've found very little on the Intertubes about common side effects. I took it for the first time this morning and holy crap, I think I'd rather have the migraine. My heart is racing, I've been in a cold sweat for an hour and a half, I keep breathing too fast, I feel like I'm going to keel over. Anyone try Prodrin?

I suspect it is not a caffine, 30 mg is about half of what a Diet Coke has, a cup of coffee is in the 200's. However isometheptene (Prodrin is acetaminophen/caffeine/isometheptene mucate) is a sympathomimetic amine. Other common sympathomimetic amine's are Vyvanse, amphetamine, and Ritalin. Some decongestants have sympathomimetic effects. So this could account for the heart racing and cold sweat. Adding caffeine to that would on intensify things some what. Sympathomimetic drugs mimic the effects of transmitters like epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). So there are the cardiac effects.

It's the vasoconstricting properties that account for Prodrin's use in headache and migraine.

There are lots of meds for migraine, get with your doc if this one does not suit you.

Thanks, all. This is my first time trying any sort of migraine med, and I knew the caffeine level was low (I have a benign heart arrhythmia, so I keep pretty close track of caffeine levels in everything I consume). I should have mentioned in my post that I knew it wasn't the caffeine. I did a bunch of Google searches and finally found an account from someone who took the same dose as me and had all the same side effects. She said that since then, she takes half the dose, and she's found it just as effective as the full dose but she hasn't had the side effects with it. So I'll try that next time. I tend to be sensitive to medications, so I'm used to having weird reactions, but HOLY CRAP I felt bizarre all day yesterday from that stuff. Similar to amphetamines, eh? Not good!
