Hello, I was wondering if any of you would be willing to share your experiences with taking abilify as an add-on drug with an anti-depressant for major depression?

I was taking 2.5 mg/day with effexor, and it helped a lot with the depression, but created a lot of anxiety and worry. I have since spoken to people who say that they had the same thing happen at 2.5 and 5 mg doses, but that when they increased the dose to 10mg, it actually helped with anxiety and still took care of their depression. Anyone have experience with this in particular?

I have gone off the abilify because of the anxiety, and am switching to Cymbalta from Effexor (slowly). I am thinking of trying the abilify again if I still need to after the Cymbalta activates, but this time shooting for a 10 mg dose. I could use some advice.

What have been some of your experiences with abilify for depression, what dose were you on, did it work, was anxiety an issue, did a higher dose curb the anxiety?

Thank you so much.

Okay, let me start this by saying that I don't know WHAT kind of depression I have. I was originally put on Abilify (2.5mg) for paranoia. I was also depressed at the time. I think it helped tremendously with the depression AND I've been a long time sufferer of anxiety and like Andy said, it seemed to help me right away.

Then I had a hospital stint where they upped it to 10mg (from five because I was depressed again) because I seemed to be depressed again (no shit) and that helped a lot. This time I'm not on any AD and seem to be doing well with just the Abilify and Lamictal. But it did work well even with AD's, for a little while at least.

That was my experience. YMMV a WHOLE lot. I've heard of people who just can't stand the anxiety no matter what dose they are at. For some it helps with the anxiety. I was one of THOSE people.
