Not sleeping through the night anymore

Recommended Posts

I am not sleeping through the night anymore since my trazodone was cut in half. Do you think that is the reason or could it just be stress? I miss sleeping through the night. I am mad at my new pdoc for fucking with that. I am very sensitive to sleep issues.

It could be stress; it could be the trazodone. But you might just need to get used to not having as much trazodone on board. When you say you are not sleeping through the night anymore, do you mean that you don't get at least 8 hours of sleep, that you get 8 hours of sleep but wake up once or twice during the night, or that you are continuously waking up every half-hour or hour or so?

I know how you feel. When my pdoc started to reduce my Seroquel in July 2010 I stopped sleeping through the night, in fact sleep went out the window altogether, and I never adjusted. I hated not having that lovely sound sleep that I was so used to. I really only started sleeping well again when I re-commenced Seroquel last April. So, I don't know if it's the same with you and Trazodone. I have no experience with it. Why did your pdoc reduce it, was it causing side-effects? On the other hand stress could very well be causing your sleep difficulties and it could be a combination of both factors

My wife claims that I am sound asleep 5 minutes after my head hits the pillow. Of course then there are the nights when I wake up again and sit in my recliner in the living room trying to fall back asleep. Now that I have quit smoking I don't know what I'll do to fall asleep again (for some reason, cigs make me tired).

How much are you sleeping during the day? How much exercise, such as a brisk walk, are you getting each day? How much alcohol are you ingesting each day? Elsewhere you mentioned that you were so depressed that you could not go to dinner with your husband, do you think that might play a part in "not sleeping"?

But I was sleeping through the night at least. I've quit the alcohol. I don't get exercise maybe once a week. I am depressed. I do sleep 15 hours total though at least yes. But not sleeping through the night is not going to help things wouldn't you agree?

You need a sleep hygiene set up of between 8 and 10 hours a night if you're going to sleep through without being sedated by your previous dose of Trazadone. You can achieve that by not napping, setting a regular bed time and making sure you get up at set time each morning.

Tbh, sleeping 15 hours a day is avoidance of your mental health issues, spending your life unconscious in sleep is not going to be conducive to improving it. I speak from a place of experience, I used to sleep that much each day and i took me a few months to wean myself from it and into a regular pattern.

I think good sleep hygiene and an earlier wake up time could help. Sleeping during the day if you are up at night will NOT help. Also, 15 hours is a lot, so maybe the traz needs to be reduced, so that you can get a more normal amount of sleep, and you just need a little time to adjust, you know?
