my lips are tingling...

Recommended Posts

...and my back/eyes/body get these weird twitches every now and then. These have been happening for awhile. I did miss a few doses of my lamictal. Could I be having some sort of seizure activity? I went without lamictal for three weeks in May and was "okay."

(Mods: I accidentally posted this in cocktails.)

I get an effect like that when I'm having a panic attack, because of the adrenaline. I don't know what it means if you're not having a rush of adrenline, though, so I'd contact a nurse or doctor and ask.

Also, I'd be careful missing doses of any med, but especially an AC.

Well, tingling lips is usually lack of blood flow/oxygen. Stuff like breathing too quickly from anxiety or low blood pressure are two common reasons. Twitches are more vague and there are many types. Both of these things can be caused partially or solely by meds, for whatever reason.. but it's not a given & they can be completely unrelated to them.

As far as Lamictal and seizures go.. I had a scare when I couldn't keep anything down, as well as times I simply forgot my medication - there were different reactions.. but in all cases, getting the med back into my system made it stop pretty rapidly. So, since this sounds like a more consistent thing, and not something that only occurs when you forget a dose with remittance when you remember it.. I wouldn't link the two, no.

As far as seizure possibility in general.. I'm not familiar enough with them to say.

Calling or going somewhere to try to rule that out and then follow-up with your pdoc sounds like the best plan.

Edited to add: Abilify could also be a culprit for the twitches (EPS).. if that's the case, taking some Benadryl can help.

Whatever it means, please be careful with missing doses of an AC. And especially with lamictal, if you go more than 2--3 days without it, you HAVE to re-titrate it, or you will put yourself at MUCH more severe risk of developing SJS. This can happen at ANY time, so you really need to be careful, especially if it works well for you.

I fucking love that med, it gives me SJS, and I have never found a suitable med to replace it. It made me feel 100% NORMAL for the first time in my life, depression wise. It truly is in a class of its own. If you find you have med missing issues, get yourself a med box so you can check yourself.

My pdoc said it was myoclonic jerks. I feel a little better.

Ah, ok.. I've never had that mess with my eyes.. but my limbs do it often enough. It was more common when I was younger.. but stress, weakness (like fever or low blood pressure issues/overextending myself), and certain meds like Amitriptyline increased its occurance. It's alot better now, but it still happens. For me, it's just one of those things. I think it began a the start of middle school. I pretty much just ignore it.

I usually ignore it as well, but I think when I had the scare about the seizure it was because the myoclonic jerks were so bad because I was exhausted. I was just so very tired and I do notice that tends to make side effects worse. Plus I allowed the tiredness to let me jump to conclusions.

You're so wonderful for taking an interest in what I have to say. I know I've been posting a lot in the few days I've been a member here, and I hope I'm not overbearing.

Well, it's good to get things checked out to find out what they are. Otherwise you can miss something important. I don't think you overreacted at all.

Not at all.. I haven't read all of the posts you've made, but I've seen quite a few. They tend to be rather thought out and add to the conversation. Thank you for taking the interest in others that you have. Glad to have you aboard.
