New meds-not a bad place to start. Do you need to take some time off from school and is someone helping you arrange that if you do? How long til you have a follow up appointment? Who is going to be advocating for you and supporting you while you get better?

Oh, yes, I am taking the rest of this semester off school, got a note from my pdoc and I will be going to my Dean tomorrow (she's been lovely helping me in the past) to finalize it all. I have my official non-emergency appt over Thanksgiving break and my parents, particularly my mom, is being my advocate.

Sounds like some pretty sound changes to me.. Cymbalta is kinda the next step up treatment-wise from Zoloft (if you go by some of the order recommendations meant for doctors). It worked quite well for me while it lasted.

Question: Did your pdoc happen to mention which symptoms the perphenazine is meant to treat specifically? I'm curious.

I saw your other topics too late to reply, but I read them and would like to say that you handled the situation incredibly well and that we're here to support in in whatever way we can. I hope you start to see some improvement soon. Please keep us up to date.

I used to take perphenazine. I loved that med. I wanted to go back on it last week but I can't because it doesn't play well with a health condition that I have. But I would have gone back on it in a split second if it weren't for that problem. I really helped calm down my brain a lot. A whole lot. I hope it works as well for you.

So, somewhat of a good anti-anxiety med then?

Yes, it says "to treat emotional disorders" on the info packet I got from the Walgreens pharmacy, but I believe it also has been perscribed for the anxiety.

Cool, good deal. Did they start you right at 60mg Cymbalta, or are you working from 30mg?

Yeah, I do actually. I'm surprised. I like it a lot better than Zoloft 100mg. I'm hoping the drowsiness goes away from the combination of all my meds though.

Good deal! Yeah, interestingly enough, I went from Zoloft to Cymbalta as well, Zoloft helped my anxiety slightly, but did nothing for my depression. I started at the normal 30mg of Cymbalta, but I never had a single side effect going on or off... (It worked so well then stopped - I've gone back on it about 4 times to see if I could get it to work again.) It's always agreed with me. It was a perfect match while it worked.

I'd be willing to bet it's the perphenazine that's causing the drowsiness. Normally that sort of thing goes away easily enough.. but some APs tend to be more sedating than others. I don't know where this one falls on that scale. If it's not near Seroquel level.. it'll probably go away just fine.

Edit: Typo

Oh no, the Seroquel was horrible. They gave it to me in the hospital this last time I went inpatient. It's not as sedating as that, although I took some accidental naps today because I just could not keep my eyes open. And I had errands to run so I had to be extremely careful driving and at open point about four hours ago I had to stay off the road and keep to my apartment.

Yeah, Seroquel is definitely up there. I mentioned it because you've taken it. It's much more along the lines of the type of sedation that doesn't usually go away over time. The type you're describing sounds more like the norm found with many meds. I'd continue cautiously the way you already are and just wait it out.

Yeah, this is what happened when I was on citalopram/Celexa. It was horrible trying to go to classes and work. Staying awake was so hard. I never got the chance for that to go away since I was hospitalized and they put me on Zoloft right away.
