bxt227us
ok, hi. My name is Dan and I'm new. I'm PB (problematic biped). I used to take depakote and it did work but made feel blah- I mean no reason to get out of bed blah; I've seen that repeated here at the board. So I asked for lamactil. My doc gave me lithium but it dropped me about 50 IQ points. Now he prescribed the S-Bomb: seroquel When I took my first dose of 100mg I swear I really, literally could have been on LSD (which I haven't taken in 13 years). Should this surprise anyone? LSD is an antag at 5HT1a and so is seroquel. This is the receptor that monitors serotonin concentrations in the brain and adjusts it accordingly. If you take acid 2 days in a row, you don't trip so maybe I'm tolerized to seroquel's wierdness. Is this a good thing for psych patients?? I get the leg twitchees at night and feel anxious and shaky, and disoriented the next morning. So... Has anyone else been wierded out by seroquell? Does anyone take the recomended 300-800mg dose? Does it do anything for depression? (that's my #1 prob!) Does anyone else ever get a tight feeling on the top of their scalp (without meds) I'm glad to learn that I'm not the only one who... can't watch those creepy crime shows can't take SSRIs has used term "social paranoia" -thanks for reading all this just because you can treat mania with low dose carbon monoxide doesn't mean it's preferable to death. Pastafarian
I'm on seroquel but not long enough to give expert advice. I do feel a little high on seroquel but have not taken LSD to compare. The recommended starting doses always fuck me up (although I am a slow metaboliser). maybe you ought to try starting at 50g and go up from there. One_f'd_up_ho
Hey Dan, I'm on 350mg a day and I've had no LSD-like symptoms on it. I'm actually less intense now. From what I understand, Seroquel is used more for the mania part of depression. I also take Effexor and Wellbutrin to help with my depression. The combo seems to be adequate for me. Best of luck to you.
Echo
Hey Dan, I am currently on 600mg. I titrated up from 25mg. 50mg, 100mg, 200mg, 400mg, 500mg, and now 600mg! I'm still going up I believe as my doctor has told me that 600mg is the bare minimum for BP. I think he means BP1, I was dx'd as BPII before but I think they're changing it. Anyways - On to your questions: "Has anyone else been wierded out by seroquel?" I'm sure lots of people have. I, on the other hand, have not. I maybe felt a bit of giddiness the first dose, but nothing like an acid trip (and I have done acid, although only once and it was NOT a good experience). I would also like to add that it is not unusual to be weirded out by any new med the first couple of days, weeks, or even months! Your mileage will vary depending on a lot of different factors. Seroquel is an awesome med, in my opinion, and my advice to you would be to give it a really fair chance because if it works for you as well as it works for moi and others I know then you won't mind the initial weirdness because once you get it in your system it is freakin' amazing. "Does anyone take the recomended 300-800mg dose?" Yeppers. 600mg, and still going up. I assume I'll hit atleast 800mg, maybe higher. At the beginning I thought my BP was mostly depression and not many hypo or manias.... I was wrong. Ha. It evolves! It used to be that way, and then recently it has been much more hypo and manic than depression and seroquel has helped. It hasn't squashed anything that much yet - but then I only started on 600mg a couple days ago. It is amazing for my other issues as well. It helps my ocd, my multiple fkavors of anxiety, and helps with my BP symptoms as well. It sort of quiets my brain a bit, like the volume has been turned down. It also still helps me to sleep like a rock which is a nice thing since I can't often hop into bed and just go to sleep. "Does it do anything for depression? (that's my #1 prob!)" I think it CAN, but it is geared more towards the mania side of BP. It's approved by the FDA to treat acute mania in BP. What I have been told is that at the right dose (and a pretty high doese I believe) seroquel has mood stabilizing properties - so in essence - it can and will help with depression because it will help to "even" you out. "Does anyone else ever get a tight feeling on the top of their scalp (without meds)" Not too sure what you mean by this - I sometimes get a tight feeling on the top of my scalp when I am very stressed or have a very bad headache. If you can elaborate more on the feeling and what accompanies it maybe I (or someone else) might be able to give you a better answer on why this might be happening. Keep us updated on how everything goes! Echo aka Starr
berelain326
For me, Seroquel (I was on it for sleep) was the devil. I hallucinated like I had eaten one hell of a bag of shrooms. (Never did acid though.) I could go from 12.5-100mg of it for sleep. And truthfully, I did better with the hallucinating than I did with the Seroquel hangover. It was just like a regular hangover, minus the night of drinking. It also gave me some wicked mixed states. My Hallucination Story: I was getting off of my computer, and I sat there looking at my wallpaper (rollinggrassy fields and clouds)...yes...the grass began to move, the cluods began to move...things turned into Wizard of Oz for me (particularily when they're on their way to the Emerald City and get stuck in the field of flowers that makes you sleep). It was special, my pdoc had me off that the next day. And ALWAYS remember, that just because I had a bad experience, doesn't mean that you will. There are PLENTY of people here who swear by it as well. (For what it's worth, I DID fall asleep, and stayed asleep, and woke up the next day and went right back to sleep, slept some more woke up in time for dinner, went right back to bed...repeat...) faith
Has anyone else been wierded out by seroquell?Yes. If I stop taking it for a while and restart, or only take it "as needed," I get weird hangovers until my body readjusts. Does anyone take the recomended 300-800mg dose? Before I got pregnant I was on 900 mg daily. Now that's cut back quite a bit, as you can see from my sig line. Does it do anything for depression? (that's my #1 prob!)It doesn't for me. Your mileage may vary. Does anyone else ever get a tight feeling on the top of their scalp (without meds) Yes. Without meds. I don't know what this means so I'm sure that was a big help! lol That said, Seroquel has generally treated me well and I just love it. But it's obviously not for everybody. I have heard of some pretty bad experiences on it and am always surprised that they're talking about the same Seroquel I take!
Tank Girl
Just started it too. Trippy at first but all I have done for the last week is sleep, and sleep and sleep... Haven't done anything I'm supposed to do which is a bit worrying. Must go lie down now.
