Any meds similar to Haldol?

I tried Haldol and it worked fantastic even for cognitive symptoms (I think it was a secondary effect of how much it helped my positive symptoms). Unfortunately, the risk of Tardive Dyskinesia is somewhat scary.

Does anyone know any similar med that will do basically the same thing with little or no risk of Tardive?

Consider risperidone. I think when it first came out they switched allot of people from haloperidol to risperidone because of the lesser risk of tardive dysknesia.

As far as Haldol goes, it has a greater risk of TD because it is an older medication.

Most of the older medications have a greater risk than the newer generation of medications.

The atypical antipsychotic medications have a smaller risk, but still have the risk.

Risperidone/Risperdal is the most similar to the older medications.

If haldol works really well for you, it might be worth sticking with. This is especially true if you have not experienced TD symptoms and have tried a decent amount of other antipsychotic drugs.

Thanks for the input. I'll take it into consideration.

However, I really wanted to find a medication that was chemically similar to Haldol because whatever mechanism it uses works great on me.
