Guest Vapourware
Yes, it sounds like it's come earlier than expected. Which is good, because now people have another choice in terms of AAPs.
vanderk
The taste of it will make you want to send it back from whence it came.
Anna
That's great! It really is an awesome AAP for some people. Yeah, the taste sucks, but you know what, if it works for you, you will do it. If you are sane. I took it for awhile and totally got over that, in like, no time. It is what it is. Personal pet peeve, discussing the taste sucking of medications. ESPECIALLY lamictal which does NOT taste bad if you just SWALLOW it appropriately, and it WORKED for me, then I got SJS. Never found a med to replace it with either. Seriously, wait til you get some HEALTH conditions from your meds like I have, and have to treat with side effect medications, while remaining on the medications, and then complain. No lie. No, we got it in the US about a year and a half ago, maybe less. That's an exceptionally accelerated timeline for release outside of the US. Guest Vapourware
Note for Aussies, however, that Saphris is currently NOT subsidised by the government. It's on a listing that suggests it could be subsidised from December 1st, though: http://www.pbs.gov.au/publication/factsheets/professional/summary-of-pbs-listings-1-dec-2011.pdf
renaeden
^I am not surprised. I am looking to try another antipsychotic for off-label use (tics and other stuff) and have found out I can't get Abilify cheaper because I don't have schizophrenia. Anna: I found the brand name Lamictal tasted nice, like blackcurrant. The generic one though - blech.
maristrider
I think the Lamictal formulation we have in Australia is not the one (most) USians get. Aussie Lamictal/lamotrigine is the chewable/dispersible variety, even at high doses (eg 200mg tablets). Like renaeden, I quite like the taste. Koloth
My Pdoc told me this was now PBS approbed. He suggested I try this in January. I shall see how it goes.

That saccharine, metallic taste is not the highlight of my day.
renaeden
Found out at my recent appointment with psychiatrist that Saphris does not go well with sodium valproate. An interaction to be wary of.
Guest Vapourware
That's interesting. Did he say why? It's the first I've heard it.
