I hope it's okay that I put this here.

I was wondering how everyone stores their meds? Right now I have one of those little weekly pill boxes. But I'm thinking this might not be such a safe option. I have a lot of little people running around and I'm always afraid they are going to get their hands on my meds and then disaster would strike. I had been keeping it on top of my fridge, but I'm noticing it's getting condensation inside the little holders, which I assume is not good. What are some of the other options out there for safely storing them but keeping them in sight enough to remember to take them??

Thanks!!

I would also think that a safe would be the best option if you have kids running around.

Since I don't have any kids, I tend to leave my packet of pills on my bedside table.

I keep all of our pills (lids and mine, along with OTC) on a high shelf in the kitchen away from water and heat. Of course, my kids are older (14 and 10) and they have been told many times that mommy's pills make mommy feel better, but they would make them very, very sick if they took them. Like go to the hospital sick.

Both of my kids take adderall XR, so each child has a weekly pill container in a different color to take their medications. Since they take different doses (15 and 40 mg), they both know the number of pills and color theirs should be.

One of my biggest worries is that my son, when older, will try to steal some of my pills with his friends to get high. That's why we talk about the pills so much. I'll probably have to invest in a locking pill box someday soon - that's a really good idea!

Thanks everyone for your ideas! I have a lock box that we keep under our bed. I think I'll move all my meds to that box and then get the locking 7 day pill box for a 1 week supply.

The older ones know not to touch my meds, it's all the younger ones that scare me. Circles that are pink and long pills that are yellow look way too much like candy for me not to get a little freaked about it.

I think a locking pill box is a good idea, yeah. And a safe for the rest. I have a med cabinet that is really big and contains a HUGE supply of pills (get 3 month supplies of stuff) and we installed a lock on it as a precaution. More for me, really, my kid is older, and he's really safe with his own meds and I really don't worry about him abusing them, he just doesn't seem interested. He tells me shit like "I'm happy, I don't want to do drugs, those are for unhappy people" and seems to genuinely mean it. He has his own 3 month supply of stuff, and just takes his meds the way he should.

When he was younger, I just kept things high and out of reach, but in a cupboard, not on the fridge, as that seems to be not good for storage, probably. But for your own peace of mind, get a locked pill box.

He did once swallow an advil tablet he found on the ground left by my stepf who has ADHD which resulted in a panic call to poison control (he was really young) but no lasting harm was done.

He was more an "unscrew all the kitchen furniture with the automatic screwdriver we got him for christmas that he really wanted and we figured he'd be totally unable to use" and a "lets paint the couch with peanut butter and celery" kid, really. That said, he has ADHD, heh. Too much silence from him was usually a BAD thing.

Yeah, pills do look like candy sometimes.

When your son was younger, sounds a whole heck of a lot like my now 10 year old and my now 5 year old. My 10 year old would and still would take the furniture apart if we let him and my 5 year old has indeed painted our entire bathroom with toothpaste hehe My 5 year old is being evaluated through Behavior Health Services for ADHD. We're actually waiting for them to call and set up in-home services.

It's this same child that I worry about getting my meds though. He would absolutely put them in his mouth and not think twice about it. His younger sister, not so much. She'd more than likely hand me the stuff and walk away, but it's a chance I don't want to take with any of them. I could use an upper cupboard, but I've found J standing on my counters more than once, so he'd still be able to reach them.

A really big vault is what my wife and I are planning to get each other for Christmas. Our current one is full. Anyway there is no room for my pills in there. Actually, one of those little gun vaults (Made for a single handgun) would fit a pill case just right.
