Nationwide adderall shortage

Recommended Posts

It's hard to say. My pdoc said about 50% of his Adderal patients liked Vyvanse better. So it is highly personal as to what people will like. There is another options Dexadrine Spansiles. They come in 5, 10 and15 mg strengths.

The formulation of Vyvanse was designed to avoid the crash. If it were me and I had problems with crashing I would start with Vyvanse.

In terms of price Dextroamphetamine IR is the cheapest, and comes in 5 and 10 mgs tabs. It is of course generic; I get 60 tabs for about $40 but insurance covers it as generic ($10-14).

Oh, I wasn't saying that a shortage didn't exist. I know very well that it does. I was just saying that maybe mail order would be somewhere to check.

I said "well reported" because I was impressed in the number of hits I got searching "Adderal shortage". I did not mean to imply you were say there was no shortage. I think you are right, the large insurance pharmacies probably keep a lot in stock. The FDA info on the shortage is indicating Jan. 2012 is when production will increase. So if you can get a 90 day prescription you could ride this one out.

I know my boyfriend had issues filling his this month. He drove around to several pharmacies and wound up having to go back to his p-doc to have the prescription rewritten and had to cut the tabs. I can't remember the dosage, I want to say 10-20, but all of the pharmacies here were out of that but had a higher dose.

When I tried to look it up, I found an article in my local paper that apparently our parish has had a shortage since August, but apparently he did not have problems since now.

I'm trying to get him added to my health insurance as a domestic partner, since my work recognizes that, but the dumbasses at the call center who handle our health insurance has told me 6 different things about when we are actually going to get the paper work to get him added. He's a student with no insurance and on my insurance, he could get his through mail order or switch to something like Vyvanse without having to pay out the ass

As of today, Medco (online pharmacy) had brand Adderall (immediate release) in 10 mg (out of other doses). They told me they would fill with brand even if my script wasn't written "Dispense as Written" (though I assume the higher co-pay I have for brand would have applied). Also, if you are in southeast Michigan, the CVS in Rochester Hills (Adams and Walton) has generic in 10 mg (I didn't ask about other doses or brand).

My "shortage" month was Novem, ber, took me almost 2 dozen pharmacies until I found my 30mg Tab Amphetamine Salts.

Now, I have been on 30mg 2x daily since the initial rx by my mdoc in March. That was way too much for me personally on a daily basis, so I am now on about 30mg daily, occasionally 45, and in severe cases I take 60.

Today I went to fill my rx at CVS. Every rx up to now has been orange oval 30s by BARR. Now they are round orange tablets made by Sandoz.

Is this going to affect my head a lot? I have heard that the Sandoz pills are more effective, and I will admit that the Barr variety sometimes puts me in a trance. I can definitely doze off on the Barr, and I thought that was not supposed to be the case.

Either way, this is a good jumping off point for my first post. I will need to follow up with a new thread to report the overall differences, since it looks like many other people are also wondering about the difference between generics,
