Strange Sleep Patterns

Recommended Posts

I've had insomnia for 20 years. Then I got on mental meds, started taking them at night, and largely started a cycle of sleeping from 10-10:30pm to 7-8am. Of course, during mood episodes, that whole sleeping thing goes out the window, and I'm not falling asleep until 3,4,5 am.

The insomnia came back (without a mood episode) in full force about 4 months ago. I was on ambien, but even a double dose (given a big no-no from the pdoc) didn't make me sleep. So the pdoc started me on 100mg trazadone. And for the most part, 30 minutes to an hour after taking it, I'm sleepy enough to fall asleep.

But then the trouble comes. This past month I've been waking up in the middle of the night and can't go back to bed. This past week I got up at 5,4,3,2 (eventually went back to bed), and 5 again. I get tired around 1, but I have to go pick my daughter up from school at 1:45, so I can't take a nap then.

Anyone else have this problem? I see the pdoc next week, and I'll ask him about it, but I'm just wondering if this is just the way I work.
